Unfortunatly the lebanese have never tried to understand Bashar al asad, nor sat down and talked to him.. Just because his dad wasnt that good doesnt mean he is a vilin.. I honestly belive that Bashar is a friend not a foe, the ppl around him who have remained in their positions even after his father's death might've been behind some of the wrong doings on the lebanese soil.

The US have always tried to make Syria look bad just because the syrian regiem opposes the US goverment's ambitions in the middle east.
Syria's doing a pretty good job of that on their own :D

Jack strikes again !!:p

for your pleasure, I'll re-post it...

look below.....
And now I reply :p

No the US has been juggling governments in the region forever, Syria is always being Syria, Iraq always been Iraq, everybody is the same....Both, Syria and Iraq, were allies of the US! Now that these regimes served their purposes, now they are being dropped ;)

The same could be said for the Saudi, Egyptian, and Jordan regimes.

I cant remember how long its been since Syria was considered a "friend" of the USA, and Saddam went too far when he decided to invade Kuwait

You know what his next target would have been after Kuwait ???

Saudi Arabia

Well ya I know that...But thats not really the point. My point is that governments are good or bad depending on the approval of the white house...NOT their actions.

You know which country provided Saddam most of his artillery and weapons?

USA

Like when??

Don't bet on it...
Off the top of my head I recall the critical parts of the Oslo accord were agreed upon in secrecy. Although the plans themselves did not work out, it does prove that, in secrecy, deals can be struck and constructive talks can be held better without outside pressure. As far as treaties go, the Oslo agreement was relatively revolutionary. It's a shame it wasn't carried out.

I could name other examples of secret peace treaties that date further back (such as agreements in Europe during the continent's colonial age) but I think you got my point.

at which junctures does syria bend over with lube in hand? this agreement is completely ridiculous
Syria's negotation stance isn't all that strong. In 1948 they launched an invasion on Israel and in 1967 were probably on their way to repeat their stunt, judging by the military build-up. Israel struck pre-emptively (which is a tactic I don't by definition support) and captured the Golan Heights.

When it comes down to it: the losers of an armed conflict have very little to say. Ask East Berlin.

There March14 snipers on the rooftops aiming at innocent civilians. And I'm not talking about what I read or heard...it's what we saw ON TV. It was caught on camera. One guy was throwing some kind of explosive (grenade or molotov), while the other was a sniper.

All of this under the "I love life" slogan.

Such BS...

Anyway, the government has done one good thing, and that's impose a curfew. Nobody's allowed on the streets.

There is something happened on Future Tv today, I am sure most of Lebanese saw it, I was about to fall off my chair when I saw it

Future tv were showing some guys making troubles, and he was describing like this " We can see now how Hizbollah Supporters are destroying everywhere, making troubles , burning Cars, taking the place to chaos" Then in seconds some of them was passing and Yelling "Kss Ikhtak Ya Hasan Nasrallah" (he was insulting Nasrallah's sister in Arabic), they cut the scene Imedietly. :D

I was so impressed by this letter written by a Lebanese guy today...

It's so sad:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The “Bus of 75″ won’t pass again…

Civil war does not necessarily start the same way every time. For people who are still waiting for the “bus of 75″, it will not pass this time. 3 people were killed on Tuesday and 4 today, until now… It won’t stop. Now it’s in between people; and our leaders didn’t understand yet that they are burning the country. They are still blaming each other and trying to use what’s happening for their political interest.

The war with Israel is easy… we know the enemy. Now the enemy is us. Welcome to the renewed civil war.

Thirty years ago our parents watched the same thing on TV and said it’s going to stop in few days… And guess what? It stayed for 15! What role everyone of us will play: sit in the shelters, fight with the party/tribe we belong to, close everything and leave the country, sit and argue on who’s responsible… Maybe we need one more war and we deserve it. It seems we didn’t learn enough the last 30 years.

It’s so painful to see our country being destroyed… Our people are killing each other. Now Sunnites and Shiites, tomorrow Christians and Christians and after tomorrow Christians and Druze… Welcome to the jungle of corruption, theocrats, autocrats, war lords, feudalists… Welcome to the jungle of confessions and the consociational democracy, the big lie of the 21 st century.

I’m sitting in the office, watching Lebanese TV stations: Fadlallah, Seniora, Karame, Kabalan, Hariri, Berri, Kanaan, Rice and Chirac… How can we even think that this country will go better… when people are killing each other in Beirut, Omar Karame is on TV making a speech and people are shouting: “inta l’mufti ya omar”.

Are we going to argue in 30 years from now if it’s the war of others in Lebanon or if it’s a civil war? Yes, we are responsible of this war. We are responsible of every moment we spent arguing in favor of any of the opposition or March 14. We need to wake up…

When we were able to do something, we didn’t succeed… I’m not sure we can any more. I understand more than ever why youth are leaving the country for good… I’m loosing hope. Can we do something? Can we stop it? Unfortunately, I feel it’s too late. Good luck for all what you will try to do in the first civil war in the third millennium.

Congratulations to all of us for the great work we did to make our country repeat its history.

Congratulations to all our politicians who lead us to this situation. We knew that this is their way to lead and they have no problem repeating the war for the sake of being in power.

Congratulations to us citizens and civil society for still believing that these politicians are still capable of leading this country… and for being divided because of our blind support to them.

If you are waiting for the “Bus” to pass to know that civil war started again… I can assure you it won’t pass again…

The situation is very complicated though I still insist that no civil war will take place. Things will just happen from time to time until the Army will learn how to control all these murders in the city.

That said that It's up to Nabih Berre the most to save this country more than anyone. We're not going to wait for Hassan Nasrallah and hope a miracle to take place, this man is able to Beirut upside down just to put Syria somewhere behind the "International Trial".

Each time I see and smell the love between Bashar and Hassan I remmber the bodyguard movie.
