I know there was one in New Orleans, which is an hour away, but I'm not sure about Baton Rouge........shameful really since I researched the biography of Robert E Lee, the Confederacy General, but that was 4 years back. :dontcare:

Not as vicious as Celtic v Rangers, but it seems as if there was a little bit of fistycuffs their after all:- (isn't it easy to get off topic?)

Baton Rouge
Other Names: Magnolia Cemetery

Location: East Baton Rouge Parish

Campaign: Operations against Baton Rouge (1862)

Date(s): August 5, 1862

Principal Commanders: Brig. Gen. Thomas Williams [US]; Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge [CS]

Forces Engaged: 2nd Brigade, Department of the Gulf [US]; Breckinridge’s Corps [CS]

Estimated Casualties: 849 total (US 371; CS 478)

Description: In an attempt to regain control of the state, Confederates wished to recapture the capital at Baton Rouge. Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge planned a combined land/water expedition with his corps and CSS Ram Arkansas. Advancing west from Camp Moore, the Confederate land forces, coming from the east, were only ten miles away on August 4. They reached the outskirts of the capital early in the morning, formed for an attack in two divisions, and began to drive back each Union unit they encountered. Then, Union gunboats in the river began shelling the Confederates. The Arkansas could have neutralized the Union gunboats, but her engines failed and she did not participate in the battle. Federal land forces, in the meantime, fell back to a more defensible line, and the Union commander, Brig. Gen. Thomas Williams, was killed soon after. The new commander, Col. Thomas W. Cahill, ordered a retreat to a prepared defensive line nearer the river and within the gunboats’ protection. Rebels assailed the new line, but finally the Federals forced them to retire. The next day the Arkansas’s engines failed again as she closed on the Union gunboats; she was blown up and scuttled by her crew. The Confederates failed to recapture the state capital.

Result(s): LA003

CWSAC Reference #: AL001

Preservation Priority: IV.1 (Class B)

you mean my impression of the first half.........this game seems like it's taking forever.

It was alright I guess. It got pretty damn slow at times, and there were few flashes of individual talent.....namely, Silia (Ivorian Celtic player), Mutu, and Terry. Gudjohnssen looks very poor.

Maybe the two managers will do like Lippi did last season and changed the whole squad.......that'll give fresher legs, and more players to watch. That would make it slightly better.

Sylla is playing well?

I can't think of the last time he even got a start for Celtic.

...and I'm surprised that Beattie was playing, he's second string at best...what is the temperature like in the stadium...we had reports here of a heat wave?

It's boiling outside in Baton Rouge.......and it looks to be sizzling on the pitch as well.

Here are the Chelsea new faces that are looking like they're going to play in the 2nd half.......Kezman, Cech, Makelele, Babayaro, Robben, Lampard.

As for Celtic.......they're not really focusing on them.

Laursen, Hartson, Pearson, Macnamara........are the new faces.

That's more like it...Hartson will just power his way thro' the defence, Pearson will run all day for the hoops, amd Jackie is a solid defender, probably pick up Robben on the wing...Laursen is just coming back from injury and needs the match practice

Hartson lost weight!!? The guy is huge at the moment. Sutton was playing in the 1st half.....no idea if it was him who went off for Hartson or Beattie.

Gudjohnssen on the left side crosses slow to a wide open Kezman (no one within 10-15 meters of him).....scores with ease.

59' Chelsea 3-1 Celtic
