The problem is that we think it will be 4-5 years, but Marotta got us there much quicker than we ever thought. What if we're looking like a Champions League contender in 2 years? We'll not be able to move him on and he'll be too expensive to replace.

Whoever we buy for each position needs to be the guy who will play when we lift the big ears. Otherwise don't bother.
If we're a CL contender in 2 years it will be thanks to Koop. So why would we move him on then....?

Building a team is not buying a definitive piece right away. Marotta didn't do that either. Remember his first summer or have you luckily been able to erase that from your memory?

Marotta took 5 years to turn us into a CL contender...

And as mentioned above, if we get to the level where we are competing for the champions league, Koopmeiners would've played an important part in helping reach that level so in that scenario, there would be no reason to move him on.

As I said, the objective right now is competing domestically first. We have been terrible in Serie A for the last 4 seasons. Once we get our groove back domestically, that will translate to Europe as well.

Why are people so worried about his transfer fee? I didnt know Elkanns accountants were active on Tuz. His wages would be the bigger concern, but the reported figures dont seem to be anything prohibitive in regards to future ability to sell. That stuff shouldn’t even be a concern right now, this is the guy Motta/Giuntoli have prioritized, so go get him.

Why transfer fee doesn’t matter and wages do? The difference between 45m and 60m translates to 1.5m wage delta over 5 years.
