This is a problem. Allegri expects Dybala to create the chances, while the player might be better off getting chances instead of having to make the team tick. He's not that kind of player.
At this point, Allegri is probably fully aware of this but there are only so many options for a 2 striker formation. Once we bought Higuain for 94M, any chance at having some versatile tactics got thrown out of the window.
Coming up with the 3-4-2-1 was actually pretty outstanding considering how well it worked last year. When you think about it, Max basically has three #9s that all have to play or the world will end (this includes Mario).
If you remove Higuain, you can basically play any formation you want. Dybala as a #9 means you can play Berna as a CAM, even Pjanic. You can play 3 CMs. You can play 4-3-3 with Berna at CM, Cuadrado RW, Costa LW. You can do a lot more things.
