That’s what Matuidi is for. Now we play 433, Matuidi’s presence on the left side of midfield has made Mandzukic’s workrate redundant.

We don’t need our forwards to be defending in our own penalty area. We need them to sit on the shoulder of the opponents’ defence ready to counter at any moment.

In all seriousness, good lineup. It’s very flexible too, can take the shape of either 433 or 442.

Maybe against other elite teams, we should play Claudio instead of Berna just to add steel in midfield.

It's asking a lot of Berna and Costa defensively. Allegri's first thought if he sees that formation is if Berna + MDS can defend the flanks against Ronaldo/Neymar/Sane/etc.

Now that AS is shit, he might need more help as well. I will counter below:

I'd love to see Cuadrado on that side at some point. Could easily switch things up at any point if needed and move them to their more traditional style winger sides, but having them on their cut-in and shoot or pass sides would be pretty fascinating.
