I feel our midfield has become an easy scapegoat for all our difficulties. I agree that we can definitely improve the squad but the situation isn't as grim as some seem to think. We have a world class squad.
Some of our fans are in serious denial and delusion.

Our midfield isn’t even top 10 in the world.

And who are those fans you are referring to?

We do have a world class squad, not sure what you are trying to imply by bolding it.

The midfield certainly isn't the reason for all our problems. Part of the problem? Yes. It can certainly be improved on as can other areas in the team.

I know it's just wishful thinking. Just imagine if AS kept his form like his first season. No one would even think of Marcelo. It's sad because we know how good AS can be.
Thing is i was strongly against any sale of AS until now, after his contract extension this season he suddenly had a run of decent performances and now he's back to his inconsistent ways. It's hard to blame the manager and it can't be a coincidence he also missed out on a world cup spot last summer

Our midfield is too shit for our squad to be considered world class. Midfield is king in the Champions League. Look at all the mids that have won it since 2013.

Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Martinez
Alonso, Di Maria, Modric
Iniesta, Busquets, Rakitic
Modric, Kroos, Casemiro (three times)

We have to field players like Bentancur, Emre Can, Matuidi and the corpse of Khedira. We are not in the same galaxy as the mids mentioned above.

It is by far the biggest problem in the team.

I do think we need a midfielder or two but our midfield imo isn't as bad as some on here like to believe. The last few games where we have struggled have been a collective failure. There hasn't been the right intensity in our play and the overall passing has been a bit wayward. Football isn't only about the three players playing in midfield.

I agree the midfield is the main issue. It is giving us very little both going forward and defensively.

Bentancur is the only one who gives any real protection to the defence, but is still very raw. Matuidi and Khedira are the only ones who make runs from midfield and past the forwards. But Matuidi is incredibly limited when he gets the ball ruining his excellent work to get into space and Khedira has injury issues/struggles in high tempo games. Pjanic is playing incredibly deep.

Ronaldo loves to drift wide as does Mandzukic. Dybala is playing deep/on the right, we badly need a midfielder to make runs into the box. You saw what an impact Khedira had when he played recently hitting the post twice v Parma, scoring v Sassuolo, missing more chances v Sassuolo, purely by taking up the space in the box. This is why I think Bernadeschi can play a similar role from midfield, he is excellent at getting in the box from deep.

Ramsey is really good at that.

Obviously not, but the midfield is the most important area of the pitch. Midfielders have the greatest influence on the game.

Look at the chances Modric, Kroos and Isco were creating for Ronaldo in big CL games from 2016-2018. Those chances were fantastic, many were easy to score.

Now compare that to the non-existent chances we create for Ronaldo. The difference is night and day. Our midfielders are not capable of regular forward passes or dribbling. Most of our attacks start with long balls from our defenders. We are predictable and easy to defend against.

The CL is merely a dream until we fix this.

Ramsey is a good signing, but we need more.

We need midfielders who can control the ball under pressure in tight spaces.

How do you rate pjanic as regista

I actually he’s good in that position. He doesn’t have the tools to play as attacking midfielder. He’s physically limited and he can’t really dribble. Pjanic’s biggest strengths is his passing, and his ability to not panic on the ball when pressed.

I think we really depend heavily on pjanic having a good game for as to have control of the game
