:D Please, do not pretend to be naive. The amateurs are just getting started. I really hope this will lead to something more meaningful but I have my doubts.
I liked the post that compared this to Twitter's Arab Spring. I think the comparison is apt. Everyone feels the glory of the little guy fighting back... until the big boys with big resources arm themselves to do even more harm with the same tools.

https://www.wired.com/story/arab-spring-gamestop/

That would imply that each one of these individuals actually have the power to influence millions of people. But they don't. It's a collective effort from a bunch of nobodies.

It's not the same as billionaire hedge funds manipulating the market.

The false information spreading is pretty disgusting though but that's only a few rotten apples.

:agree:

They're self declared retards who don't inspire any confidence to profit seeking visitors.
These are forces we need to get more used to in the world, period. Stocks today. Maybe energy prices tomorrow. Maybe taxes and employment after that.

Pump and dump is everything nowadays. Not that in the old days the financial analysis and future projections were so meaningful anyway, but nowadays they are completely pointless.
The stock market had more metrics, but it really had no more credibility than the Dutch tulip mania of the 1630s. This is human behavior. It's the same. The only thing that's changed are the tools to do it.

Adding statistical analysis, machine learning, and vice president business cards to people doesn't suddenly stop them from being human at their core, and subject to all of the usual human frailties and insecurities.

Chamath said it himself, a lot of the posters on Reddit and discord are smart people. They may be followed by a lot of idiots now but overall, they know what they’re talking about
I've said it for years: Reddit is for troglodytes.

People who missed out on Digg v1.0.

yeah, agreed. The market is changing, people need to adapt to the new style
It's not changing. Human greed and the desire for influence and manipulation is the same. Just the tools are different.

Question for you guys.
How does Elon Musk get away with manipulating Tesla stock price via his tweets?
Why is there no uproar about it?
Musk really should have been put in prison for the manipulation he did with the market -- everything from talking about taking his company private to his pubic beefs with shorters.

Low activity today pushing GME and AMC down. Just gotta hold till the hedgers bleed dry. Used the opportunity to buy more on NOK. Plenty of opportunities to buy at discount before the price booms up midweek.

Can't stop, won't stop. GME stop.

Long term, is it a good hold though? Once the controversy dies down, I doubt many people will have the appetite for GameStop.
But then again, you’re talking about a system where Tesla is valued more than the 10 biggest car companies combined, so what do I know.

No it isn't imo. Tesla at the very least is a serious company with decent prospects for growth in the future (still way overpriced though). Once the hype and interest around GME dies off, it should drop.

Probably not, it's got another week or two IMO, though the overzealous on WSB are hell bent on reaching 1000 as their end game. That forum has attracted 2 million degenerates in 4 days and totals 8 million. It's hard to tell where it's going, a small group have broken off, given up or gone their own way into silver, dogecoin or other stocks but the overwhelming majority are holding and that's admirable in many ways even if it's plain stupid.

The aim was to bring Melvin and other hedgers to their knees and we are on the way to achieve that.

You're right though it's all about meme stocks, in this case driven by sentimentality. Tesla will go on for longer because there's an actual market there both as EV and Utility company.

No, not in my opinion at this point. They would have to totally revamp their business model in order to be viable going forward, and I don't think they will.

I'm really not understanding the whole Dogecoin thing. What would be the point of everyone buying and holding this? It accomplishes nothing, it's a pure pump and dump.

Embrace the clown world. Pointless to act upon some ideal world that exists in your head, must play the hand you're dealt. Recognize market meta, act accordingly. Doesn't matter if it's fundamentally sound or not.

That being said newbies are playing with fire right now. Regardless of the final GME top being $1k or $10k it will eventually converge to 0 and a new generation of bagholders will be born since Gamestop is effectively a dead company and business model.

It's worth a punt with some playmoney but don't end up holding bags.

Hedgefunds borrowed 37.000.000 shares (78% of Total shares). Their short options Will be closed at the end of the Day. So they have to cover 37.000.000 next mondag. So many shares aren't available so they have to pay the market price at first (22%) and then outbuy the other shares (56%). It meand that they need to buy shares for at least 15 dollars a share and they shorted dit 3/4/8 and 9 dollars. The price Will Go ik heavily. Forbes placed An article at least to be 40 dollars a share at monday.
Reminder to myself: never trust Forbes

wall street bets last week had a little over 1 million subs and that was mainly people lurking. it wasn't until price shot up to 400 on friday that it climbed to 7 and 8 million.

seems unlikelky that last week was all hedge funds.

but now? yes eyes will be on reddit to try and pump and dump and manipulate. the recent increase in bots activity is proof. it will be like this at least for next few months until all the teens and people that put their house downpayments fuck off back to their low interest savings accounts and GICs,

i was reading reddit and on more than 1 occasion i saw posters saying they put their house down payment on stocks.

this is the problem on why so many people are against investing. they put everything in one stock and when they lose they get discouraged and tell entire friends and families how stocks are scams.

idiots looks for get rich quick schemes will always exist

What does everyone think of the theory that the Reddit retailers are really just a smokescreen and this is really more about internecine warfare between hedge funds?:

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...cts-hedge-fund-coordination-in-short-squeezes

So many people want this story to be about the little guys standing up to the major con artists that objectivity does seem out the window.
Could never count something like that out. I'm sure it certainly started with retail, then once enough mentions were made the algorithms picked up on it and it snowballed from there.

So what ticker do I gamble on this week?
Not a weekly thing, but I'm thinking Nio again. I spent most of Monday and Tuesday shoveling, so I didn't pay much attention to the markets and ended up missing it at $55/share. Their January deliverable numbers were good, so I'd like to get in before earnings. I'm debating between buying now, or maybe seeing if it hits resistance in the low 60s and then goes back down to $55. I'm only going for MAX 10 shares though, so it probably doesn't even pay to wait in the grand scheme of things :p.
