The Catalans' vice-president has expressed his delight with the capture of the midfielder and feels they got their man on the cheap.

The 24-year-old midfielder returned to his boyhood club this summer for an initial fee of €29m after an eight-year spell with Arsenal and Bartomeu is very pleased with Fabregas' transfer.

"The transfer of Cesc was a very good deal for us. Normally his price wouldn't have been €29m, but he lowered his value by saying that he really wanted to go to Barcelona. His real price was what Arsenal initially asked. He's worth at least €60m in my opinion," Bartomeu told Sport.

"Transfer negotiations are like poker. Ideally, nothing is leaked to the press, but that seems to be impossible because of all the parties that are involved.

"The fact that we announced in advance that we would only spend €45m this summer worked to our advantage. Clubs were already well aware of our stance."

Fabregas made his official Barcelona debut in the 3-2 home win over Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa and has since scored in the 2-0 European Supercup victory over Porto and in the 5-0 Liga hammering of Villarreal.
What a douche bag!

Messi has suffered from constant injuries for 2 seasons some years ago (like fit and his usual self half a season, out injured other half etc). Kaka's injuries, made him lose his explosive sprints that was his bread and butter. Plus that he hasnt allways been that consistent of a player, more of big games/impact player when needed. Like when Milan won CL and he got the Golden Ball, great in main CL games, entirely mediocre in the league (throughout the season, consistency wise, Cristiano Ronaldo was best player for me, with Kaka being better in games, when it matters, but all the same doesnt take away being so-so most of the season).

So Barcelona get a 21mil euro discount on one of the world's best players simply because he wanted to sign for them? The gap between this and what Marotta can accomplish is vast.

I read a quote from this Bartomeu when the Cesc move started again this summer, he was basically saying that Barcelona wouldn't negotiate because they were Barcelona, and the player would come. To have that level of arrogance you first have to be a massive draw, the best.

True. Still it's somewhat amazing in my mind that this actually worked out for them.

Before Guardiola came, Messi was one of the most injury prone players ever. I don't think he ever played a full season during the Rijkaard era.

Messi > Dinho Imo.

Zidane trumps them all though, nobody even compares to the great Zizou. Now that was a great player if there ever was one.

Ronaldinho had like, what, 3 great seasons?

Seriously he was great at his prime but he can't be named as the best player ever, the period is just too short. Zidane pisses all over him.

Dinho was the most enjoyable for sure, Zidane is the greatest IMHO, Messi is the most efficient and he'll go down as one of the greatest to ever play, he's still 24

messi has the team that dinho didn't had..dinho assisted or scored in almost all of the important matches that barca had in that time. I'm comparing the peak of his career..and dinho looked unstoppable, doing dribblings on the field that he dreamed one night before

impact yes, technique? no frickin way
I'd agree with that. What Ronaldinho does with the ball, other players only dream of having. The machine like efficiency of Messi, his unrivalled close ball control and his pace and strength make him a better overall player than Dinho though, if i were asked who to take assuming both are in their prime. I'd give the slight edge to Leo.

on the other hand dinho has demonstrated he can make people around him look good, messi to a lesser extent. Have you ever wondered how much zidane's game would be different if he was more physically gifted?
