Post #74 will give you the basis for my opinion. I don't know what else I can say. Again, I don't expect everyone to agree with that, since that has to do with how I personally judge players.

But hey, it's not the first time I see you labelling opinions that are different from yours' as making no sense or having no basis. Like I said earlier, from now on I'll let you form my opinions & ideas, that should save me some trouble.

It's just funny how so much is forgotten over a season. In this discussion it's like some think Aquilani didn't show any promise whatsoever. Not that I'm a huge fan of his anyway.

It's also funny that you come up with various claims, but are unable to back them up.

You're able to tell me "that's not really what you said", but when I ask how or what you mean by that, then you don't care anymore. Pretty convenient.

And how anyone would conclude that, based on this discussion, people think Aqui didn't show any promise whatsoever is beyond me.

Pepe did actually not disappear ! He was just not played anymore, so this is a difference to Aquilani how got played but still did not do anything noteworthy. We could compare stats and see that even while Pepe was played out of position 90% of the time he still out-scored and out-assisted aquaman until just before the winter break.

you biased opinion against pepe might not make you see that, but pepe is always involved and last action i remember from him is breaking through the defense on the left side and playing very nice and fast cross/pass to matri how volleyed it only inches past the goal.

so in 1257 minutes Pepe scored three times and assisted once (419 minutes per goal) while Aquaman did score twice and assits three times 1860 Minutes (930 minutes per goal) (50 % more time played). my biased opinion tells me that pepe actually does more defending work than aquaman, while being just as effective in the attacking sense of game. pretty weak for a "creative"/mega-through-ball-assist-aquilani. you gotta have in mind all the time, that pepe has no good left foot, so being played out of position on the left wing renders him more or less unable to go to the byline and cross

apart from the assist and the goals he did play some very nice corner kicks and freekicks ... way better than the corner kicks taken by anyone this season

Also may want to include % of matches won while on the pitch, minutes with the lead while on the pitch, etc. Goals and assists are good for measure influence in some players, but guys like Xabi Alonso don't really get a lot of goals or assists even though they are hugely influential players.

EDIT: Aquilani's tackling succes is much higher than I thought it would be. As is his interception rate.

comparing aquilani with nocerino who is (imho) a below par midfielder with very limited technical qualities says it all, doesn't it ?

i could also make amauri look good, when i compared him to striker who only has one leg to make him look good :p

Then again, chances are that it will end up in my (or other people's) judgements being called ridiculous, wrong or making no sense whatsoever. And that's probably not a good thing.
