I know, but I meant that you can't compare the two as the US has a far better equipped police system.
The police in Mexico are pretty lame. There are hundreds in every town but they don't do anything. Non-existent would be the word.

And Mexico doesn't actually have a gun ban, guns are just difficult to acquire here. You can have a shotgun with a hunting licence. Pistol with a special permit. Rifle, impossible to get.

They are pretty much everywhere. But the criminals still get guns.

We are skirting around the issue of either mass/school shootings or general homicide shootings.
Criminals will always have guns Cam. Criminals will always be violent and a small portion of that violence will spill into normal society. You can't change that.

What we can change is this problem of insane people buying guns from Wal Mart and then shooting the shit out of their communities.

What I'm gathering here, and which I agree with completely, is the need for more laws and making it more difficult to get a gun because it works in most cases. But outlawing guns completely is stupid.

There are almost no countries that outlaw guns completely.

But is it true in your neigbourhood?

You seriously believe you should compare the US to Mexico?
I live in an affluent neighborhood. 5 miles away it turns into a part we call "little El Salvador". So to give you the answer I know you are looking for, yes, it gives many people here a reason to be worried. Prince William County is notorius for "catch and release" of illegal immigrant. And if you want to see something scary, here:
http://www.homefacts.com/offenders/Virginia/Prince-William-County.html

have a look at all the registered sex offenders in my county alone.

Sidenote and to your point on Mexico...our immigration issues are bring crime as well.

1) Fun fact that folks tend to ignore. In fact, we've had gun bans in the US in the past.

2) That's more stupidity on the part of parents. Get a decent gun safe and that no longer becomes a problem.

:agree:

So bottom line here and I think is what ground we agree on is: curb the easiness to get guns in all areas while taking a long serious look at preventing mentally ill folks from getting guns.

And buy a gun safe.

See, this is another thing. Why would you allow a sex offender to get out of jail only to brand him in such a way that it becomes impossible to live a normal life? That does not seem healthy at all.

Because he is already unhealthy BECAUSE he is a sex offender (well, for most of them they are). When many of our prison inmates are illegal immigrants anyways, it becomes way to costly.

People should be able to know their new neighbor was a pedophile.

Actually it's probably better if they don't. If everyone can just look this up, it is impossible for the sex offender to establish a normal life. What do you think he's going to do if he can't live normally? How is it going to improve his behaviour? As for your own mental health, you are now in a constant state of paranoia.

How the fuck do you guys even come up with these things? It's a wonder you have sane people left.

Cause you know what happens, @Hustini? You see Rodrigo walking next to your four year old daughter and you assume the worst. Guy's a sex offender after all. You become angry. Who the hell does he think he is? So you get your gun and shoot him. Then you spend 20 years in prison.

Yeah. Because that's what I'd do.

Here is the more likely scenario. I go introduce myself and my family while I have my gun in its holster around my hip easy for him to see. There he sees that I have a gun. He also sees my 120 pound Mastiff on my front porch.

Nice meeting your Rodrigo, if you need a cup of flour here is my number.

It is what you could do. And given the rest of your answer, I'm pretty sure that Rodrigo wouldn't need to do much to let it happen. I mean, you already threatened him. And this was just me baiting you online.

Nope. No threat there. Is an ADT Alarm sign in my window a threat? No, its a deterrence. No different than my introduction to him.

In all likelihood, I'd probably just put my house up for sale and move.

You went to introduce yourself to a sex offender who knows he's listed while showing your gun. That is a threat.

He doesn't know I know he is a sex offender. Even if that wasn't evident in the beginning, I sure as hell be hoping by the time I turned to walk away he knew I knew and I'm OK with that.

A threat would be me saying: See this gun, if you ever talk to my daughters I have the first one in the chamber with your name on it.

That's exactly what you did by walking up to him like that.

Although.. Apparently you guys have zero subtext :D.
