Enron, almost all Americans are extremely defensive when it comes to their own nation. That makes it very hard for them to honestly debate about the flaws. Most Europeans on the other hand, though very patriotic, will always be complaining about everything that goes wrong.

Which is a lot, here in Italy :D.

What are you talking about, Andries? You have seen our American members castigate our country all the time here.

There's a reason why we're defending it in this case and that reason is because your opinions are out of order.

It is pretty comical. Here we bash our country all the time, and yet Andries is the staunchest defender here of the Myth of European Perfection.

Which goes back to my "overcompensation" hypothesis a few pages back... :pint:

That notion that Americans don't criticize their own country is just rubbish. If you decide to come to the States, venture into to the local barbershop, sporting good store, grocery store, gas station, etc. You'll hear complaining. What Americans don't enjoy is listening people from other countries who have never visited trying to tell us things we already know. And on top of that you go about telling us how much better you're country is than ours and then you get surprised when we get offended?
