A few months ago, a few posters expressed a concern that the forum was running rampant with racist overtones. These posters, who will remain anonymous, stated that this forum has always had a problem with racism and all the ill-feeling towards the players of color who left Juventus over the summer was nothing more than racism. While these concerns were expressed, no actual discussion was held regarding this supposed problem.

When players such as Emerson and Thuram were pondering the exit of Juventus during the last season, terms such as mercenary were used to describe the former. After their departures, more ill-feeling was directed towards these players, especially Thuram for his comments regarding Juventus. During the actual discussion, a few posters labeled others, including myself, racists for having a dislike for the aforementioned players. Now after a few months vacation this discussion is seemingly working its way back into the boards, with the recent posts of a couple members.

So is there really a problem with racism on this forum? Personally, I don't really see a problem here, however I wanted others to weigh in on the subject. Considering we have such a diverse melting pot of posters from all over the Globe, I find it rather strange only a few see such a problem. Labeling someone a racist just because he happens to call a dark-skinned player a mercenary doesn't really make sense to me, as there have been mercenaries of almost all races documented in the history books.

If people truly see a problem it needs to be addressed... instead of just a few people calling other racists for no apparent reason.
Gee Andy give it a rest will ya. When i started my rant about what i considered racism in this forum towards they guys that left, i did not even have you in mind but for some reason you decided to champion the cause and then it got me thinking about your previous posts. You are not in favour of African countries given a chance in world cup most especially. I just got tired of Thuram and Emerson being bashed and noone at the time was talking about zambrotta and Cannavaro then when i ranted then all of a sudden people remembered that canna and zambrotta also left and started bashing them too. At no time have you given facts to why Thuram is a mercenary. You have not bashed him as a player , you have bashed his person without any proof of anything. You say he was a disgrace as a captain cos he never looked like he cared or celebrated goals when we scored. For fuck sakes this is a guy who scored his first 2 goals for his country in a world cup semi final in his home country and still celebrated like it was something that happens all the time and you expect such a laid back character to go wild when someone's scores. He did in fact celebrate when Dp broke the juve record but you and some others keep on calling him a mercenary. I have read on here that Emerson and Davids were mercenaries. Are Dp and Buffon on low wages? Dp was on crutches when he was negotiatin getting 5m a year, was he not? Is that small money? But he was given what he wanted
Makele was not booted out of Real madrid cos he wanted to be on a par with players he was working like a dog for, and they have not recovered from that, Gallas was sold to arsenal cos he wanted salary increase and this same club chelsea are offering terry 150,000 a week. But when the likes of Thuram are asking for more money they are branded mercenary. No , its not only because you have continually bashed Thuram, its because of what you are doing right now , which is protesting too much about being labelled a racist which to my knowledge you have never being outed as. I do not read your political viewsa s i am not here to discuss any form of politics but I am pretty sure there are 1 or 2 arabs who might not agree with your views.
For the last time tell me again why Thuram is a mercenary and the likes of DP, Buffon, Terry and David Beckham are not

Being gay is not a crime but being galatically stupid is another matter. Your problems are too deep to go into, if you were just a racist or a homophobe , it might be easily explained but you are everything bad about a human being. The saddest part are that racists and homophobes are dangreous people, you on the other hand whilst possesing those attrubutes are not dangerous , just a genuine waste of sperm. You were undoubtedly conceived by a very bad hand job. I just blame the sperm bank for accepting your dad's essence at the time. You are just the poster boy of society gone really bad

Oh we all have our prejudices, no doubt about that. If people here could choose between fielding an 11 consisting of Liveranis and Manfredinis, or 11 equally good white Italians, the choice would be obvious. As much as most will deny it.

I only read this part...

And neither are crimes, but you are still the gayman.

But I am the posterchild of America, and I was conceived after a New Year's Eve party, since my B-Day is October 3rd. :D After New Year's Eve, wonder why I am an Alcoholic?

I couldn't care less if they were all Italians. But as far as I know most Italian football players are in fact white, so it's going to be a little tricky finding black substitutes. Mind you, I am pretty "nationalistic" when it comes down to football. I always like players that are from the region in a team.

God knows why! Pele's the better player by far. Unlike Maradona, Pele was a credit to football.
You remember that Pele shot from the half way line?

Now before you go all geeky on me, Pele did miss. I don't know why everyone is still blabbing about it. Becks SCORED. Hell, even I scored a goal like that once. To hell with Pele, the only thing that's more commercial than him is Christmas FFS.

Back to the original, serious topic of discussion, racism exists in places where people might say it does not. Unfortunately, this lends credibility to any situation -- even places where it doesn't really exist. All it takes is one corrupt referee to be in on the take for one match to put an entire refereeing crew and an entire season into question, and the best conspiracy theorists eat that stuff up. Juve is case and point.

As to Thuram being a mercenary and Canna not, I don't have the warm fuzzies for either of them. But more towards Canna. Not so much because he's white (Ricardo Vaz Té is arguably my favorite U-21 player in the world right now, for a point of reference), but rather that he's been very respectful of Juve since his departure whereas Thuram has only been snide.

Still, the one that hurt most of all was Zambro. He was young enough that he could have returned to top-level play while still at the top of his game. :(

I think we are getting a bit too carried away with all this calling racism. Thuram left and spoke to the papers saying Juve deserved to be punished to what happened. Emerson apparently stated Non gioca in serie B. Zlatan went even to his legal advisers for a exit from the Club, he simply wasnt going to give it a try, so i understand why people being angry with these guys labelling them as mercenaries. Cannavaro always spoke well about Juve and the major factor of his departure was simply he wanted to win major trophies as time wasnt on his side being 32 years old. Maybe mercenaries is a bit harsh but I would question there loyalty! Just take a look at the others who stayed.

If you only read the first sentence, how come you could write a reaction to the last sentence(which you didn't read)?

:confused2
