Claudio Ranieri experienced his first Derby della Mole and praised defeated opponents Torino.

“A derby is always a derby and it is wonderfully satisfying to win one,” smiled the Juventus boss after their 1-0 triumph.

“It may not have had the prettiest football, but it was a battle between two sides who really wanted the win.”

David Trezeguet secured the result deep into stoppages when he pounced on a misplaced Paolo Hernan Dellafiore backpass.

“Trezeguet is in stunning form at the moment. He is really enjoying his football and what I notice is that he puts more pressure on opposition defenders. The whole team has character. A Coach can talk and motivate them, but if a side doesn’t have it in them, you cannot bring it out.”

Juve come away with all three points, but it was a nervous and often fractious encounter with plenty of tackles flying in.

“Torino played a great game,” assured Ranieri. “We felt the tension, as for some of us it was our first derby, so we could never do as well as in other circumstances.

“The derby is separate from everything, as your position in the table or your form going into it counts for nothing.”

This puts Juventus just one point off leaders Inter and allows them to leapfrog previous top team Roma in the standings.

“Inter are Inter. The media called it a crisis and they’re top! It will be very difficult to keep up with them, though,” mused the former Chelsea boss.

“The fact we are not playing in Europe will keep us fresher, so anything we can do to stay in the general vicinity of the leading group is absolutely fine.”

Novellino blames the ref

Sunday 30 September, 2007
Torino Coach Walter Novellino was furious after the derby loss, as he insists David Trezeguet was offside.

“Trezeguet started the move in an offside position and the referee cannot change the rules,” he snapped after Juventus’ 1-0 victory.

“I am very angry, as this is a horrific thing to see. One works so hard and then you miss out on valuable points.”

The incident was debatable, as the changes in the offside rule may exonerate Trezeguet, as he showed no interest in the ball when it was first played and did not reach him. This is, however, a matter of interpretation.

When the Frenchman did get the ball, it was passed to him by a Torino defender, so he could not have been offside and it effectively ‘started’ a new move.

Novellino believes this is not the first time Toro have been on the receiving end of a refereeing error and called on designator Pierluigi Collina.

“We need to make Collina understand that we are here too. I am sorry to see our position in the table, as we are playing good football.”

This was the 221st Derby della Mole in all competition, consisting of 88 Juventus wins, 74 for Torino and 59 draws.

The Granata have not beaten their local rivals since April 9, 1995 with a 2-1 ‘away’ sealed by Ruggero Rizzitelli’s brace.

Does anyone know if Brazzo, Grygera or Zebina can play LB?

Chiellini was a monster at CB and made a surprisingly resilient team with Legrottaglie. Criscito will one day be better, but he's too risky in big games. Molinaro was pretty mediocre and easily the weak link in the back.

Can I say that we have a new Gattuso in Nocerino or is it still early!

I am really happy that our youngsters are playing big games like this(Palladino,Chiellini,Nocerino & Molinaro)

These guys are our future & it is so great seeing them playing important games like this & gaining great experience at such a young age.

I hope we can get Giovinco & Marchisio next season & include them in this squad step by step.

Forza Juve
