Because it hasn't been appropriate?

The space in the Siena game was on the outside, rather than running into the crowded centre.

...I thought that Giaccherini especially was truly woeful, other than the pass to vucinic which led to the goal, his crossing, dribbling, passing were all atrocious. Basically playing to defend the right flank, run forward, and hope lichsteiner arrives soon or one of his crosses gets near a juve player. So far, the only thing to commend the little goblin for is his work rate. similar story with pepe, but simone has better technique than the goblinetto. With those two out wide, we are forced to play through the middle with Pirlo, who was world class in places, but also was wretched now and then, like most of the team yesterday. So many passes gone shamefully, not just slightly astray. I like the way we are attempting to play possession football, and this will, through its very nature, lead to more misplaced passes (as we are making more passes and still learning the new system), but MANY passes were not just a foot short, or a metre wide of their target, they were several metres wide or short. I can blame the passers, equally blame the players for lack of intelligent movement. Also Siena can be given some credit for playing so compactly, and hitting us on the counter with pace and useful passing/movement.

Vucinic's work rate is a disgrace to this club. He was beautiful on the assist, but several times I saw him lose the ball, the oposition player is standing literally 3 yards away, strolling with the ball at his feet, and Mirko simply turns away and sluggishly walks off, showing zero eagerness to retrieve the ball he has just lost. That is not good enough, and I will be very surprised if he starts the next game. He is not at Roma anymore, and in that kind of form, mentally, I would much rather see DP and Quagiarella fighting for that spot.

A scrappy win, which reminded me of our still serious problems with belief and confidence, for only after the goal did we play any decent football and looked like a team which believed in itself.

2 game, 2 wins, i wont complain, but it was a massive reality check after last weekends wonderful showing.

i'm not sure if vucinic was just lazy or lack of match sharpness. credit to him though for the assist.

i would not start him next match i agree. he needs more training.

Conte is hiding his true weapons down on the two flanks IMO. He knows that Elia, Krasic and even Chelo are way better than Pepe and Giac. With those 2 Italian wingers, he knew that we could win and get maximum points without revealing much of his tactic for the long run.

We're definitely relying too much on Pirlo through the centre. We're working him overtime. Loving his effort though.

Pep and Giach were largely wasteful with their crossing as they weren't getting into the best positions to do so. We didn't penetrate from the wing at all. My pants rose a little when I saw Krasic about to come on, but then nothing happened. For the Bologna match, I'd start Pep and Krasic on the flanks, and bring on Elia for Pep after 60mins (if not performing great). Elia needs some fitness before being thrown in the deep end.

Vucinic's touch was completely off tonight. He was moving off the ball well, but wasn't able to hold up the ball or touch off to great effect. That will come with match practise, so I would personally want to persist with him for now.

Apart from that, it was a solid effort. Lichtsteiner was a champ, and Barzagli had a cracker (which I didn't expect). I though DP could have fed Pep much earlier rather than playing in Vidal who wasn't in the best position. Realistically, we should have got up 2-0 for our efforts, but I'm silently pleased either way.

Milan, lol.
Inter, lol.

Okay-ish performance.

Pretty much in control throughout, but barely looked like making a chance in the first half. Goal was nicely worked, though, and Juve should have got another late on.

Thought Grosso did well, given that he can't be anything like being really match fit/sharp.

Good game from Barzagli, too.

Still, after last season, it's nice to see a game in which Juve controlled the tempo and didn't give any clear chances to the opposition.

Even when chances weren't forthcoming, they stayed patient. Last season they would have tried to force things and ended up giving away a goal on the counter.
Pretty much what I was going to say.

Crap game, but we were rarely troubled. So saying that there are no improvements compared to last season is going a bit far.
The only thing that bothers me so far is the wing play. I could live with one of Pepe or Giaccherini starting for tactical reasons (preferably Pepe), but the both of them is a bit much.

For what it's worth:

Buffon 5,5 - Barely troubled, unnecessary complicating things near the end.
Lichtsteiner 6 - Decent enough, nothing extra.
Barzagli 7 - Made one serious error (just like last week), which he made up for himself. Other than that he was good. Especially impressed by his positioning & reading of the game.
Chiellini 7 - Comfortable enough, basically never had any difficulties.
Grosso 6 - Pretty reassuring game from him.
Pepe 6 - The usual. Mixed useless moments with useful ones. Absolutely superb pass in the build up to the goal.
Pirlo 6 - Way too sloppy to have a real positive influence.
Marchisio 6 - Not a great game. Still, the midfield was ours & he takes some credit for that.
Giaccherini 6 - Saw a slight improvement compared to last week. Still, he's just not good enough. Did well for the goal though.
Vucinic 6 - I was going to say he was the worst player out there, but his assist was brilliantly worked.
Matri 6 - Very little service, looked lethargic as well. But 1 chance, 1 goal is nice stat.

Vidal 6,5 - Positive impact on the game. Often a bit rushed though. Looks at his best when he can roam around a lot, which he may not be able to do in a 2-man mid.
Bonucci 6 - No complaints.
Del Piero -

Haha, you've just complained and then wrote that!

Would've been pissed if we didn't get the win. Scrappy and quite boring game. Glad Matri got off the mark. This performance will keep everyone grounded and focused after a great 1st game. I'm sure the entertainment will ramp up again on Wednesday infront of the home crowd.
