Roma 2 - 2 Juventus

Trezeguet 17 (J)
Totti 30, 36 (R)
Iaquinta 87 (J)

Alessandro Del Piero missed a penalty, but Vincenzo Iaquinta's last-gasp header gave Juventus a 2-2 draw at leaders Roma.

Claudio Ranieri dubbed this tie "a classic" and it had so many layers surrounding it, from their first competitive meeting post-Calciopoli to a Scudetto battle and long-running feud. After three rounds Roma were the only side with a 100 per cent record and yet to concede a goal, while the Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev further boosted their confidence. Luciano Spalletti's record against Juve in Serie A was of two draws and 11 defeats!

Juve needed a result after their 1-0 home defeat to Udinese to prove they were title material. Former Giallorossi defender Jonathan Zebina continued to sit out a four-match ban and Mauro Camoranesi was injured, but Zdenek Grygera made his debut. Claudio Ranieri really went for it, fielding Vincenzo Iaquinta, David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero in a trident attack. Antonio Nocerino played less than a week after he was hit by a car in Turin city centre.

Roma had the first real chance when Marco Cassetti's strike, set up by Francesco Totti, was fingertipped past the far post by a splendid Gigi Buffon save.

It was Trezeguet who broke through with his 100th Serie A goal. The entire trident combined with Del Piero spreading the play to the right for Iaquinta and the chipped cross in for Trezeguet's header at the near post.

Amantino Mancini was booked for an acrobatic dive and Iaquinta saw yellow for sliding into the back of Max Tonetto. Del Piero's free kick skimmed the crossbar.

Tonetto was stretchered off after just 28 minutes, making way for Brazilian Cicinho.

Roma drew level with their talismanic captain. He had his back to goal, flicked up Mancini's pass to go round Domenico Criscito and opened up his foot to fire into the far corner.

Within six minutes the game had been turned around completely. Mancini chested down Cicinho's long pass and put it in for Alberto Aquilani. Buffon performed an incredible point-blank save, but could do nothing on Totti's follow-up.

Juventus fought back with a fine team move, as Iaquinta held up the ball, Trezeguet's dummy let Del Piero clear for a fierce volley that Alexander Doni palmed out for a corner.

The more experienced Nicola Legrottaglie replaced Criscito at half-time, as the former Genoa youngster was involved in both Roma goals. In the opening 90 seconds of the second half, the Giallorossi had two corners and on one Mancini got the ball trapped under his feet and was unable to turn round in the six-yard box.

Pavel Nedved was brought down by Cicinho in the penalty area five minutes into the second period. Del Piero stepped up only to balloon the spot-kick well over the bar!

Moments later Roma had a great chance to make it 3-1, but Simone Perrotta failed to convert it from close range. During that move Jorge Andrade picked up an injury and made way for Alessandro Birindelli.

Buffon performed a stunning double save on Totti's missile of a free kick and the follow-up from Aquilani. Del Piero send Iaquinta on goal and Doni came rushing out to clear, taking some of Iaquinta's head with him.

Ludovic Giuly replaced the not 100 per cent fit Mancini and Buffon was furious at his defence for not realising Roma take their set-pieces very quickly and allowing Perrotta to get a deflected shot on target.

Rodrigo Taddei cut back past two Juve players in the penalty area, but the finish did not match up to the lead-in, while Perrotta's header was over the bar. Giorgio Chiellini nodded a free kick past the post.

But it was Juventus who equalised three minutes from time at the Stadio Olimpico. Iaquinta, who had not been expected to start this game, got in front of Cicinho to head a long Chiellini throw-in looping backwards into the far top corner.

Roma: Doni; Cassetti, Juan, Mexes, Tonetto (Cicinho 28); De Rossi, Aquilani; Taddei (Brighi 84), Perrotta, Mancini (Giuly 66); Totti

Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Andrade (Birindelli 52), Criscito (Legrottaglie 46), Chiellini; Nocerino, Zanetti, Nedved; Iaquinta, Trezeguet, Del Piero (Palladino 73)

Each player do pass through difficult time, Del Piero isn't Jesus he isn't God, he isn't machine.

I don't think he had a bad game, was brilliant in his first half and unlucky in his 2nd.

No doubt man, he isn't up to his level yet, lets just give him sometime, let him sign his contract, I'm sure he'll feel off-pressure a bit.
Call me crazy but sometimes Alex should aknowledge that he's not in form, and when he should pass the ball then he must do it instead of doing acrobatic stuff.

My man of the match : Iaquinta.

Watching DP play these days, i get the feeling he`s playin under far too much pressure than needed, dare i say the contract negoitiations have got something to do with this, i hope the management gets this done soon and puts his mind at ease, everyone`s a better player when they`r in a relaxed state of mind.

Seeing as we're playing Reggina in Turin and Camo is still injured I would go with the 4-3-3 again.

Buffon
Salihamidzic - Grygera - Criscito - Chiellini
Tiago - Zanetti - Almiron
Iaquinta - Trezeguet - Del Piero

I think Nedved could use a rest.
Good formation..

Shit performance, lucky to get a point.

Iaquinta was our MOTM. He did the most running, and played hard for 90 minutes.

Our midfield is unable to string together a series of passes. We make 2 simple passes than longball it upfront to Iaquinta or Del Piero.

Nedved and Del Piero were poor and should have been taken off earlier.'

Our defense is shit. No organization and lazy marking. It was pathetic how easily Roma were stretching our defense. We were very lucky to not concede more. Perrotta missed 2 sitters where he was all by himself.

Im not liking Ranieri either. He still doesn't have a set 11 or formation, so how is the team suppose to build any chemistry? Y did he sub Criscito? Yes he made a mistake on the Totti goal, but putting Legro in is even worse. Plus once Andrade went off, we were without a natural cb to put on. His reluctance to give Palladino more playing time is frustrating. We need some1 with pace and good ball control on the pitch.

Grygera played decent, considering it was his 1st game of the season. He didn't make any obvious mistakes, unlike the rest of the defence.

Do it yourself then with those injuries. i liked the way we played. Should delpiero be in form then roma was done. Our midfield with presence of zanetti is a little bit solid. Nocerino invisible yes but did the necessary nedded to control. The main problem is our defence though. And for all u can't blame CR. He did not sign almion and tiago

ya lets bench DP and kill his morale even more. How about we let him prove himself in the next couple of matches and see how he responds?
LMAO wat a joke, wat kills team more when u miss a penalty and a couple 100 percent chances a game or benching DP? he needs that capello treatment right now, he is our worst forward so far this season

Some people here are too protective for Dp!
He is our Captain, our Legend, our Symbol & My favourite player of all time
BUT when he has a bad Game, peolpe here should admit it.
I am not talking about the penaly, any player can miss a penalty.
Today Dp returned to what he was doing the first 2 games,he returned to playin in Slow Motion, everytime he touches the ball,he tried to dribble when there were a lot of other options,he lost the ball a lot.

He was shouting at his teammates & the referee instead of focusing in the game.

Iaquinta doesnt have the skills BUT he proved that playin with ur heart & fighting on every ball defensivly & offensivly could be enough for a player to be a STAR.Forza Iaquinta, keep up the good work,I am really starting to admire u.

My biggest dissapointment today was Criscito,he should only be given the chance against very weak teams in the Coppa or smthing.
His man Marking is NEL,I still think that he has the potential of being a good defender but this season he should never start in important matches,.

FORZA BUFFON:if it wasnt for him.....

One last thing I really admired Ranieri's substitution of Criscito,he admitted his mistake before it is too late, this is the 2nd time he did it & I really admire the coach who admits his mistakes right away & I really liked his whole approach of the game,he knew that WE cant control the midfield by any ways so he played a deffnesive Game & he put 3 strikers up front for counterattacks & if it wasnt for Crisccito's weeakness we could have won this.

Having your true capitan sit on the bench and having no real leadership on the field is what will kill this team. Even when he went off today he was coaching the guys and telling them what to do. He's not our problem because a guy can only have so much bad luck. Things will turn around for him.

Defender Andrade Out For Six Months

Juventus defender Jorge Andrade could potentially miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with ligament damage...

Juventus and Portugal defender Jorge Andrade will sit out at least the next six months of action as he recovers from what seems to be a snapped knee ligament.

The ex-Porto man started today's 2-2 draw with arch-rivals Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, only to leave the pitch in agony before the match reached its conclusion.

Juve coach Claudio Ranieri lamented, "I'm worried that he's broken his left knee ligament.

"He's had this injury before. He caught his studs in the turf and his leg snapped back. He is inconsolable."

Andrade, who played over 150 Liga games for Deportivo La Coruna before joining The Old Lady, is just the latest in a long line of bianconeri to hit the treatment table.

For example, Mauro Camoranesi is out for the medium term, while fellow defender Jonathan Zebina is suspended.

The Portuguese knight, capped 50 times for his country, may be back in action by April, but it seems just as likely that he could potentially miss the rest of the campaign
