David Trezeguet rose to nod in the winner for Juventus with just two minutes to spare for their first home win over Lazio since 1997.

The Bianconeri had not beaten Lazio here in six years and were already defeated twice this season with a 2-0 scoreline, including the first leg of the Coppa Italia Final.

Marcello Lippi has never beaten Roberto Mancini in a League match and was forced to make changes with Paolo Montero suspended, Enzo Maresca, Alessandro Del Piero and Ciro Ferrara injured. He therefore fielded David Trezeguet as the lone striker upfront supported by Mauro Camoranesi, Gianluca Zambrotta and ex-Lazio star Pavel Nedved.

Lazio are still on track for fourth place and came to Turin looking to continue their fine record against the giants. Cesar was the third prong in a trident attack alongside Bernardo Corradi and Simone Inzaghi.

Juve had an aggressive start and within the opening minute Trezeguet nodded wide from eight yards, then a deflected Nedved free kick looped over the bar.

Lazio thought they had broken the deadlock on 17 minutes when Cesar's volley slammed into the roof of the net, but it was disallowed for offside. However, the Brazilian came from the back and only Simone Inzaghi was standing in an illegal position.

Zambrotta was playing in a more advanced position and his fierce rising drive was fingertipped over the bar after he had skipped past Jaap Stam.

Gianluigi Buffon did well to hold a Sinisa Mihajlovic free kick, while Alessio Tacchinardi and Camoranesi fired long-range efforts over the bar.

Lazio really should have taken the lead on the half-hour mark following another defensive howler from the Bianconeri. Nicola Legrottaglie's missed header let Stefano Fiore in and his cross was palmed out by Buffon into the path of Fabio Liverani, but the midfielder incredibly fired wide of the target.

Juve hit back when Nedved's curling cross was turned wide by Trezeguet under pressure from Mihajlovic, but Buffon was at full stretch to turn Cesar's dangerous cross past Stefano Fiore.

Just before the break Trezeguet released Camoranesi on the right flank and his angled drive whistled inches wide of the far post.

Roberto Mancini made a change at half-time, introducing the more attacking fullback Massimo Oddo for Jaap Stam.

The first scoring opportunity of the second half fell to Juventus, as a corner wasn't cleared effectively and Mark Iuliano drilled an angled effort wide.

Soon after Mihajlovic nearly scored directly from the corner flag, but Stephen Appiah was ready to clear at the near post.

Trezeguet's looping header was easily controlled by Matteo Sereni, then the Frenchman didn't quite reach a dangerous Zambrotta cross that only needed to be tapped into the net.

The two players changed places on 64 minutes when Zambrotta's powerful finish was over the bar.

Lazio made another substitution with striker Roberto Muzzi taking over from Simone Inzaghi in that trident attack. With his first touch the former Udinese star charged into the box and it took a crucial Legrottaglie challenge to prevent him scoring.

Juve's injury crisis deepend with Iuliano limping off, while Mihajlovic was able to carry on despite a muscular problem.

The Bianconeri needed a spark and threw on Fabrizio Miccoli for the final 13 minutes, moving Zambrotta back to his habitual left-back role.

Within two minutes of stepping on to the field Miccoli curled a free kick from a very tight angle that was fingertipped on to the crossbar by Matteo Sereni.

Lazio had timid penalty appeals for a handling offence by Zambrotta on Cesar's sweeping cross.

The deadlock was eventually broken with two minutes to spare as a Camoranesi cross was whipped in for the head of David Trezeguet. The Frenchman was allowed a free header into the far corner.

Your words are somewhat too aggressive considering the purpose of this forum ... Here everybody complains about the players when they suck but also praises the them when they play well... Whether they play well or not is sometimes a subjective judgement and that's enough ...

You may think this is not good but it's just this point which makes chatting here interesting ! I reckon there is no need to be so serious and mention whatever mistake someone makes when he post his comments here...

This is just a casual place to talk about the match, among the juve fans

Great win in a tight game. Though I recognized that my standards had dropped pretty far when, late in the game, I caught myself feeling content if we left the game with a home draw. :sigh: That's when you know Juve is in a troublesome state of affairs. It had been almost a year (since April 19) that we had last defeated a Milan or Rome team. So long, I almost forgot what it was like to be ahead, if only briefly, in a big game.

Some of the brighter spots:

* Zambro: It's concerning when your best defender (who really isn't even a defender to begin with) is also your most dangerous offensive threat in a game. But that's what he was.
* Buffon: He looked sharper than he has of late. Some good saves and some smart moves out of goal.
* Iuliano: while he unfortunately had to come off, he was in better form than usual. Some nice clearances.
* Leggrotaglie: By his own standards this season, he made some smarter defensive moves while adding a little header threat to set pieces. I didn't panic whenever the ball came near him this match.

Some of the so-so spots:

* Midfield: Offensively, this group did well at ball control but was pretty weak at creating scoring chances. However, defensively we seemed to break up a lot of passes with Tach, Appiah, Camoranesi, etc.
* Trez: A non-factor for a lot of the game, as he has been since about the last Empoli match. But he threatened a couple of times and, of course, got the critical header at the close. (I just wish he didn't pretty much wait 88 minutes to show up.)
* Camoranesi: A typical hot-and-cold game for him. Did make a great cross to set up the game winner, however.

And the "was he even on the field?" spots:

* Nedved: When's the last time he's had a breakout game? I can't even remember.
* Miccoli: On briefly but added little.

I didn't see the match (could not risk to change my sleeping routine), but I hope to do so later today. All I can say is, when I saw the score Juventus 1 - 0 Lazio...

THE CURSE IS FINALLY BROKEN!! :D

...though I did forget to recall the horrible header miss back in the box that allowed Fiore to break open on a shot that Buffon fortunately tipped aside. (Fortunately for us, Fiore had an uncharacteristically bad game.)

So a correction: Leggro probably belongs in the così-così category for today's game. Which is still a far cry from wishing someone else on crutches (heck, sometimes I'd take an injured DP as a better defender!) was out there in his place. :p

I am worried about our midfield... when will they start to create scoring opportunities? How long will it take Nedved to get back into his form?

Very good analysis, Swag! :thumb:

My assesment of the game... few thoughts.

Trezeguet's workrate was much better than usual. He created quite a bit compated to his usual ghost like performances and then did very well with the header.

Nedved didn't have an amazing game but had a pretty solid run nonetheless. He was always there or thereabouts. Few of his crosses could have led to goals.

Miccoli's presence was felt even though he played for just 10 minutes.

Camoranesi was invisible for the most part then came up with the matchwinning assist. He could / should have scored himself earlier but missed narrowly.

The midfield did its job. Appiah looked alright and Tacchinardi held the ball well. Neither did much offensively except for couple of harmless shots Tacchinardi fired from long range.

Legrottaglie's error almost cost us a goal but Liverani squandered the chance. Legro never looks assured at the back. I wasn't convinced.

Zambrotta did well for the most part. He should have at least hit the target with the chances he got.

Iuliano was good though like you said but i was worried when he had to come off for the last 20 minutes.

This result had nothing to do with Juve's performance tbh. It was more of a case of 'something had to give' .... and luckily the goal went Juve's way.

Both defenses looked out of sorts so im surprised the game saw just one goal (well 2 if you count the goal Lazio scored and had disallowed).

Overall, a win is a win.
