Juventus expected to rebound against Empoli
ROME (AP) - Juventus is hoping for an 11th straight home win Sunday to quash the hope its title rivals felt revived by the league leader's mid-week slip.
Juve hosts lowly Empoli at Stadio Delle Alpi in the 21st round of Italy's top league having drawn 1-1 at Chievo Verona on Wednesday. Second-place Inter Milan is eight points behind the leader after winning 1-0 at last-place Treviso, while AC Milan is two points further back after a 1-0 win over visiting Ascoli.
Juventus coach Fabio Capello said his team was prepared to resume the pace that gave its club a mid-season record 52 points. The Turin club crossed the halfway mark last weekend with 17 wins, one draw and one loss.
"Our Milan rivals have recovered two points and they are rightly happy," Capello said. "However I'm not worried. The draw at Chievo did not ring any alarm bell. The title fight is far than over with 18 matches to go, but we are confident we can stay in the lead through the end of the season."
Defending champion Juventus is aiming for its 29th Serie A title.
Capello suggested that he planned to start strikers David Trezeguet and Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Empoli, even though the former, who has 15 goals this season, had a nine-match scoring streak snapped over his past two games.
Empoli, thrashed by Juventus 4-0 earlier this season, is coming off a 1-1 draw with Udinese which left it in the lower half of the table. The Tuscan club has allowed 35 goals, one of the worst Serie A defences.
