I think that's exactly what he tried to do; not tinker at all and instead just keep the elements that worked incredibly well in the first two games.
Yeah then basically he saw very early what we all did, that this wasn't going to work in this game because of the way Roma wanted to play, so randomised the game a bit more with subs, but it was not going to be a coherent performance either way. At least with better players on the field there is more chance of a bit of individual quality to decide a game.

It's still absurdly early in the season to be making any real judgment calls though, players are at all different stages of fitness and integration.

And no, I'm not interested in talking about how we should have signed everyone by 30th June. This is real life.

Shouldn’t be all doom and gloom. Gameplan remained largely the same, just happened that the starting 11 this time lacked quality and weren’t given as many open spaces to run into as the previous two games given Roma were very disciplined defensively.
Then following the changes the quality improving but it was disjointed with a string of players who haven’t played together before and some barely had a pre-season. So we were largely dependent on trying to find Conceicao to create something when he isolated a defender 1 v 1 out wide as the link up play wasn’t good enough to break down a disciplined defence.

Sadly Susan was poor but on the other spectrum I thought Gatti was brilliant. Maybe that captain band has knocked some brain cells into gear.

This Motta's team will be a good, strong and serious team from next season.

This season i expect us to be better that last year and we can all see the potential of the new singings and mota's philosophy.

We still need one or two mercatos, and enough time the core of the new team(Yildiz, Koop, Douglas, Thuram, Nico,Cambiaso, Bremer) to start understand eachother and perform together. I hope somehow we sell Vlahovic next year because he is not fit to play for this club and this coach. Improving the defence with a player like Calafiori is a must and also we need better full backs. Savona and Cabal are good for smaller teams but they ofer nothing in attack.

Personally, I like building a side from the back anyway. There's no point to dunking 3-0 wins on Serie A minnows when you show no creativity and flub against CL-qualifying competition.

So while the draw at home against a Roma that isn't all together is a slight disappointment, I'll take the cleansheet as a promising sign. Even with Cap'n Freddy Cats having his day.

Our legs looked a bit heavy which is to be expected and obviously players need time to gel. All in all I'll take 7 points from the first 3 with a new coach and most of the team being overhauled.

Roma was obviously playing like they couldn’t afford to lose, they had everyone behind the ball. Pretty hard to score that way.

one takeaway for me is Savona has a shot to be a full time starter, especially if Conceicao starts. You’d want someone more defensive minded behind him, and Cambiaso is more natural on the left side anyway.

I really liked your boy mbangula out there. Reminded me of glory days of giacherrini.

Looking forward into left side being useless all season.

Felt like it was still a Allegri vs Mourinho encounter, but actually both this new coaches are the type to play modern and progressive lol…

No doubt we will look better and more cohesive once all the new signings get adapted, for now keeping another clean sheet is the main positive to take out of this one.

That was one of the weakest Roma teams I've seen in 20 years, if not the weakest.

If we want top 4 finish, we absolutely have to win these kind of games.

It's quite worrying how we were unable to create anything. I can see this becoming a real issue down the road.
But it's also quite promising how we didn't give away any real chances either. It's not as if Roma lacks quality up front.

Starting lineup was fine, as you can't expect players who have just joined a minute ago to immediately start games. That being said, I don't expect Fagioli, Mbangula and maybe even Yildiz to still be starters a month from now. Even if none of the new guys, besides Douglas Luiz, made a good impression on me last night.
