I'm not going to praise him for his actions, but, at the same time, I don't think he deserves criticism for the way he handled this game.
exactly, i wouldn't fault him at all. Its not like Catania weren't attacking in the 2nd half, they were dangerous and going for the win would've been a bad choice imo.

Thank god for the three points and it was good seeing both camo and tiago back in the starting 11.

funny how some people here say "i give ranieri praise, when it's due" and still only find critical words ...

how can we blame the unmotivated lacklustre displays by some players on ranieri on one game, but not praise him, when the players fight with good spirit against an opponent that has one more player on the other game?

but you know who said this.... ha ha ha ... the one that told ranieri should have took off an defender to player with 3 defenders just to bring a more offensive player .... ha ha ha

glad that this person is not our coach, because then we would be really the laughing stock of the league ... repeat that "change to a three man defense", when we get totally owned ...

Here comes the FM computer games teacher....

Looks like someone was going to be satisfied with 1 point out there. I don't blame you, because after all whether we win we loose we draw we don't play we play we exist we don't you're always going to praise Ranieri, even if it rains shit on your head.

And no wonder you're never taken seriously except that Juve red now agreed with you because I doubt that he understood your post.

Anyway, even if it was Lippi coaching there protecting your 1-1 score and bringing in CM for a CM doesn't make sense when you have your sights on the Scudetto. But again like I said, it can rain shit on your ears still you would praise just so that you don't feel wet.

Anyone here thinks bringing in Poulsen for Tiago was wise or was credited to Ranieri is turning himself into a joke like FM teacher v1r2tu3.

And also anyone thinking it was wise protecting the score 1-1 because we were playing one man down needs to get a life.

Rab, I understood what Virtual was saying.

I have been known to agree with both of you on different issues.

Please leave me out of whatever petty squabble the two of you have going on.

First off, if anyone decided to praise Ranieri for his tactical nouse or telepathic genius with the Poulsen substitution, please don't humiliate or embarass yourselves, because that would clearly show your ignorance towards anything related to football. Ranieri deserves no credit, because he is a coward, refuses to change his formation, and brought on a defensive midfielder to try and salvage a point, rather than throwing on Alex, Gio, or even Trez to try and go all out for the 3 points like any ambitious coach who harbors ambitions of winning titles would have done. No ideas, predictability, and refusal to gamble and take risks. That is all Ranieri typifies. Plain and simple, Ranieri is a douchebag who lacks guts, and has zero tactical knowledge of the game, and that is why all he can ever hope to win are some mickey mouse coppa italias, or the suck me till I am dry annual porn promo cup.

The defense, yet again, looked clueless and out of sorts. We can't keep relying on Buffon to bail us out, or on individual performances forever. Eventually, our luck will run out, and we will be found out. Make no mistake about it, we were extremely lucky today.

Our midfield seemed like a comatose patient, uninventive, lacking in creativity, and simply unable to do anything in the face of the Catania onslaught, especially @ the beginning of the 2nd half, when they were all over us.

As for the attack, or what was left of it after Iaquinta's stupidity, all that can be said is that Amauri set up the 2nd goal, providing the assist for Poulsen. Considering the mediocre level of service from our midfield, I would say that Amauri did quite well.

My ratings for the game:

Buffon: 7.5 partially responsible for the goal, as he was slightly off his line and the goal would've been avoided had he been a couple of steps back. Other than that, we would've lost this game by 2 clear goals, had it not been for him. MOM.

Grygera: 4 His only, solitary contribution was that which allowed the opposition to equalize. Enough said.

Legrottaglie: 4.5 Slow, constantly caught out of position, and outpaced on numerous occasions Lucky not to concede a penalty.

Mellberg: 4.5 Same as above, bar the threat of conceding a penalty.

Molinaro: 5 Plain average. Didn't really contribute much, but was the best performer in a very mediocre backline, which is not saying much.

Camoranesi: 6.5 lively, inspired, and provided the assist for our 1st goal. Had to come off early in the 2nd half, possibly due to fatigue.

Sissoko: 5 Risked being sent off for too many late challenges. Rash and aggressive at times.

Tiago: 5.5 Tried taking a couple of long range shots, and came more into the game late in the 2nd period. Was substituted by Ranieri, just as he was starting to become more involved.

Nedved: 5 Yet another forgettable performace, bar one or two occasions.

Iaquinta: 5 His score would have been much lower, had it not been for the goal. Put his team in a world of trouble after stupidly being sent off.

Amauri: 5 Tried to hold up the ball, and make the most of the chances he got, which were few and far betwee. Set up Poulsen for the winning goal.

Marchionni: 4.5 Crap, Crap, Crap. Lucky not to concede a penalty for attempting to play handball in our penalty area. Contributed little going forward, and could have cost us the game. Fartio Fuckionni must be benched, forever!!!

Poulsen: 6 Came on really late in the game, and scored the winning goal.

Ranieri: 4 Refuses to take risks, doesn't have the guts to alter his beloved 4-4-2 formation, and lacks the tactical knowledge and in game intelligence to ever be considered a winning coach. Very limited and lacking in flexibility.

Spot on. I agree with everything you said. This win just reaffirms to Ruineri that his "tinkering" works. Hiwever, it does not, he got lucky. Tiago (who got subbed out for Poulsen) would have scored that goal. In fact my dog would have scored that goal. The only reason Poulsen got the chance to score was that the Catania player whiffed on the clearance. However, Ruineri will see it as his "great" sub that made the difference. Yet we all know that Poulsen came in to preserve the 1-1 tie. At Juventus we do not preserve 1-1 ties against fuckin Catania.

Luck eventually dies and so will our season if we do not get rid of Ruinieri and his pussy mentality.

Tiago didn't appear fit to play 90 minutes. He had drifted out of the game.

You can't just go for it when you are a man short. All you can do is try to impose yourself on the game enough to make a few chances, which is exactly what we did.

If it had been up to me, I would have brough Del Piero or Giovino on for Nedved at the same time that Poulsen came on.

yep, other than that I think Ranieri's call to get Camo and Tiago out was a good idea

Exactly.

When you are down to ten men, you need those ten to be fit.

I have to say that the criticism of Ranieri is harsh on here.

We are down to ten men, against a side that effectively plays three upfront and people are saying to go for a back three. I would much rather have taken 1 point than zero and I believe that putting on a striker for a defender at that point would more likely than not have led to a defeat; which would have been damaging on the morale given our form.

I don't believe that Poulsen coming on for Tiago was simply to get a point. Tiago isn't match fit and rather than completely change shape which would be risky so late in the game, he is our CM on the bench. Lets not forget that Poulsen can also play attacking passes.

I would agree that Giovinco or Del Piero may have been a good option for Nedved to freshen up the attack, but to completely change shape and go Gung-Yo for the win away from home with 10 men is foolish.

I wouldn't blame Ranieri for "Tinkering", most changes were due to injuries. Sure he didn't play Del Piero and probably should have rested him in midweek but had Iaquinta not been so stupid it would most probably been a far more comfortable match.

Then he should have subs Tiago with one of Giovinco or Del Piero. I would have picked Giovinco.

Anyway, I never felt so disappointed like today, not even during Udine, Cagliari or Napoli Coppa games. Maybe because inside me I feel that we still have a shot on the Scudetto and I didn't want us to throw it away.

I've defended Ranieri during the Udine and Cagliari matches but today there was no excuse for these silly subs in the 2nd half.

I hope things will go better next week. Never been so disappointed like today, but I know I'll forget all about it once the Sampdoria game comes closer.

I just can't understand how folk can be anything other than jubilant at winning in that fashion today.

To win the league, you have to win games when the odds are against you.

A massive amount of effort from the players, combined with a little luck, got a great result.

But he won the game. And one of his subs actually got us the winner.

it was the 1st bad tackle by Iaquinta, and a good ref always give the offending player a stern word instead of a yellow
It was a clumsy tackle and if someone did the same against one of our player we would expect the opponent to be booked and protest if he wasnt. The fact of the matter is the ONLY person that can be blamed for the red card is Iaquinta, surely he 1st of all should have had the intelligence not to take his shirt off in the 10th minute of the game and 2ndly he should have had the intelligence not to go diving in on an opponent who was going absolutely nowhere straight after picking up a booking for the shirt incident.

IQ could very easliy have won us the game today if he would have used a bit of grey matter, instead he very nearly lost it for us and I'm sure i am not the only person on this forum who is absolutely fuming with him. I hope the whole team learn from this incident and make sure it is never repeated in the future.

People need to stop pointing the finger at refs all the time and hiding behind our own players shortcomings. After EVERY single game there is always a few people who blame the refs for mistakes and what not. Its about time people started to realise referees can sometimes make mistakes, we have the luxury of replays etc, refs and linesmen see an incident in real time and have to make a split second judgement, they are not robots. How many times have you thought there was a foul/handball/offside, only to see the replay and realise you were wrong??
Stop making the officials scapegoats and take some responsibility for a change, that way we might actually learn someting.

Funny match.
Grygera had a bad game again. The defence has been shaky of late, especially with Buffon around. I wonder if Ranieri had purposely asked the defence to slack off to give Buffon some saving practice.
Iaquinta's sending-off threw us off our rhythm, but Amauri was great. He often succeeds against 2 markers and sometimes won possession even with 4 defenders around him.
I suspect the recent bad results to be a case with the mentality. After Poulsen came on, we dominated even with 1 man down. Last gasp try for a win, or the Poulsen effect?
