Zidane was the best player in that World Cup.
Cannavaro was. Zidane was the best player I have ever seen and he was great at the world cup, but Cannavaro's performances were the best I've seen of any player on any world cup.

I agree with you, but I do think that Zidane against Brazil was probably the best any football player has ever played. Cannavaro's overall performance was better, but that game against Brazil..

Well he lost his cool, if that expression fits better. But yeah, seen as he sometimes went apeshit on his opponents when playing for Juve or France, I'd say he choked. Doesn't have to be a sports expression since headbutting a guy in the chest is not part of the sport anyways.

Zidane played a great match in the 2006 WC final. He didn't choke.

Camoranesi was awful on that match. Lost almost every ball. Totti played like it's a friendly. Camo tried but failed. Totti didn't even try and he failed. The Italian defense was very good (I won't say excellent because Malouda, Henry and Zidane beat it more than once. The CB's were excellent, the fullbacks were solid). Gattuso was very good, so was Pirlo. Toni fought like a lion. De Rossi was ok. Perrotta was usefull as a body, but did nothing. The same goes for Iaquinta and Del Piero.

In France there were more good individuals than in Italy, but Makelele and Zidane were the best, with Malouda coming close third.
Zidane was excellent. When I watched that final recently I realized how much football misses Zidane.
