Why not use sanctions that cripple an economy of a hostile government with its citizens as collateral? You weaken a state on all fronts, weaker people, less resources to build their country going forward.

Maybe it's fucked up. But yeah..
That’s zero sum mentality, and it IS fucked up. In short term it will starve people and drive up immigration. In long term it causes more wars.

What is the alternative tho? Sanctions is not perfect but it's all there is that can be done.

How does it lead to more wars? Not saying it's false, just following the train of thought. The immigration causes it?
State will consolidate the resources to keep the cronies happy. When eventually even those resources dry up war is the only choice.
