Current legal basis is to freeze them until sanctions are ongoing. The sanctions are there until the war is ongoing. The funds or the real estate or any other assets arent "taken" by the authorities. The owners just cant sell them, thats it, thats the scope of eu sanctions and its the same in uk. As I said, there are some discussions on whether and how to confiscate, but that would need a completely new legal mechanism.
