Some quotes from Cruyff on Nederland 2 today: "Rooney reminds me of a young Ronaldo.", "He has great awareness" and "He's got a certain presence, a certain aura about him." He sat through the whole evening disappointed with Ajax's rubbish performance and boring highlights until the United-Fenerbahce game came up. He sat up immediately, eyes twinkling and a big smile on his previously moody face, the expression of just the average football fan who's excited about a player/performance/match/etc. Couldn't stop talking about Rooney...
Oops! Looks like another know-nothing sucker has been fooled by all the Rooney hype.

"I can't remember a player catching my eye like Rooney has. It has to be 23 years ago when a young Marco van Basten made his debut for Ajax.
"There are striking similarities between the two in terms of natural talent and I have no doubt Rooney has all the qualities to become one of the best strikers in many years.
"I was in the TV studios analysing the Champions League games the other week when he made his United debut. Rarely have I got so excited about a player's debut for a club.
"I thought he was something special when I watched him play during the European Championship. If he had not been injured, given the form he was in, England may well have gone on to win the tournament.
"His United debut merely strengthened my belief that a very special talent has been unleashed on the game. Only the real superstars can cope with the real pressure that automatically comes in those circumstances.
"The whole world's eyes were on Rooney but he played as if it was just another match for him.
"He was fantastic. Technically he is superb. I love players who can do things with their left and right foot - it is such a rare gift these days.
"When I look at his skills and ability I would have to say he is better than Ronaldo was at that age. People go on about Thierry Henry - but I think Rooney will be better.
"The boy has no fear. It's difficult to see flaws in his game - and he is only 18!"

of course, cruyff is an idiot who knows nothing of football and has been caught in the hype. He is mistaking a manboy with no other qualities than running around and manhandling defenders to score tapins for a player in potential better than Henry, Ronaldo and as impressive a natural talent as van Basten.
