I Want To Play More - Palladino

Juventus striker Raffaele Palladino talked about his struggles while playing on the wing in order to get more chances to play.

He plays with Juventus, he's taken into consideration for the Italian national team, yet Raffaele Palladino is not one of the happiest footballers around. At 24 years of age, as seems logical, he wants to grow, show what he can do, and in a word, get more space to play.

"I'd like to play more, that's obvious, but with Juventus we've decided to talk about it at the end of the season, so in June we will clear this up," he said from the Azzurri's training camp.

What's also been bothering the player is the fact that he's frequently had to play on the wing, as he explained: "I challenge any striker in Italy to play as a winger. I do it with pleasure in order to play more, but it's clear that I'm a striker who is trying to adapt to a different role."

On the criticisms frequently aimed at him: "I need to play more often, and unfortunately I often read overly excessive criticisms while I'm trying to sacrifice myself, playing on the wing and often retreating to defence."

Does he want to play more as a winger?
No.

"I want to play a bit more, that's obvious, but we have decided to talk at the end of the season and then we discuss things. I don't see any Striker in Italy who has to play as a winger.I do it voluntarily to play more, but it's obvious that I'm a striker who needs to adapt to a new position. I have to play with continuousness. I'm reading a lot of harsh critisism recently while I am sacrificing myself in trying to adapt into the new wing role,I'm even finding myself in defence. Napoli was chasing me and I was honoured by the interest of such a prestigious club, but I don't like to change the squad in January. The thought of playing in England or Spain is fascinating me. Not for now,but never say never,we'll see what happens in June."

There is something about him 'volunteering' to be a winger which troubles me. It doesn't really seem like Ranieri's doing if he volunteers to play there all the time, but he isn't making any fans by doing it.

He hasn't really a chioce if you ask me. He can choose between sitting on the bench or playing out of position so it doesn't surprise me that he chooses to play out of position. I hope that he will find his place in the team as a striker in the future. We don't have seen what he's about in Serie A as a striker. After we saw that,we can decide wether to offload him or to keep him. If Ranieri keeps fielding him out of position we should offload him and buy a real striker.
Yeah I am party breaker...Sorry Gigolo.
No problem,I had fun translating it:p. You can call me Marcello by the way;)

I don't think he is good enough to be a starter tbh. Once a player like Amauri/Huntelaar/Cassano comes then he will be sold.

Don: Why I snubbed star duo
Monday 4 February, 2008

Roberto Donadoni has explained his decision to leave Antonio Cassano and Alessandro Del Piero out of his Italy squad to face Portugal.

The world champions will have a slightly unexpected look as they play their first preparation game for Euro 2008 on Wednesday.

Despite his revelatory form for Sampdoria and close relationship with Donadoni, Cassano has lost out to Genoa’s Marco Borriello.

“I thought I’d try out some new players because this is one of the last opportunities,” Donadoni said.

“Vincenzo Iaquinta? Del Piero? Cassano? Alberto Gilardino? I’d rather you asked me about Marco Borriello and Marco Cassetti.

“The players that are left out shouldn’t be worrying, as they only need to be concerned if they are putting in poor performances – we have four months left.

“Cassano is a player who I know best,” the former Livorno tactician continued. “He needs to be stimulated and call-ups don’t do that. He needs to grow more, so I am waiting expectantly.”

Del Piero’s chances of making Euro 2008 his Azzurri swansong are up in the air after the Juventus talisman was again left out of the squad.

“Scoring seven goals is not enough to make a player indispensable,” Donadoni maintained.

“Del Piero knows very well what the situation is. Four months ahead of the European Championships nobody should feel excluded.

“If I made my list definite for Austria then the players that were on it would go on holiday, instead I will follow all the games and collect information.”

Donadoni concluded by responding to questioning over his decision to select Juve benchwarmer Raffale Palladino.

“Find me another right-winger,” he declared. “Franco Semioli was called up for that reason. We don’t have many alternatives.”

Have you guys noticed that Palla has trouble dribbling past players lately? and don't give that crap about playing on the wings. A good dribbler can dribble from anywhere.

:howler:

Why does everybody think Palladino can play as a right-winger? This is getting silly now.

He has the skill to get defenders off balance, but lacks the pace to take advantage.

And it should be easier to beat players on the wing because there tends to be more space.

I guess as his former coach at Livorno, Dndoni is favouring him abit.

I feel sorry for Palladino for playing out of position, unfortunately, DP is really on form and will not be dropped.
