Jasp I think you fail to grasp what National Football is all about and it grows further than just liking Football.
:sergio:

I know what its about, which is why i disregard what its about and just watch it as a shit load of football matches that occur during the month.

Andy, if i supported England in international events and said this stuff that would make me a hypocrite, i dont support any national teams, i just would prefer to see Italy do well primarily due to the sheer ammount of bianconeri playing for them. Its like a serie a super team to me.

Just because you two are convinced that looking inwards is a better ideology doesnt make me a hypocrite for not adhering to it.

Andries, think about this, seriously. Why on Earth would you want to cheer on something you have no ties to whatsoever, not even a family member, when you yourself would play for your own nation if you could?

Does it really make any sense? Really?

It can't make sense, as if it would, then there would be no point to the international game.

Before calling me an idiot, think about it.
Didn't you cheer for Juventus? The connection is liking them.

Yeah. But what does make you a hypocrite is claiming you prefer Italy, a national side, does well at a tournament.

There aren't two ways about this. You either stick to what you said about nationality and live by it, or else you don't.

That would only make sense if you supported the Czechs, the French, the Brazilians, and every other nationality we have at Juventus.
You didn't get the sentence :sergio:

I mean liking a nation is enough connection for me to cheer them on. It's what makes you cheer on something you have no connection to either: Juventus.

hmph, look at it like this.

I dont agree with religion in the slightest, but due to socio/political circumstances beyond my control once a year i am forced to eat a meal with my family whilst they celebrate christmas. I dont partake in their celebration....i just eat the meal and spend time with them,

I dont agree with the concept of nationalism/patriotism but once every four years the world is taken over by an event in which countries play each other. All of my friends watch it, its the only thing thats on tv and i like football. So in that situation of course i am going to end up watching the fucking football. I would prefer italy to win because i support an italian football team, many of which play in the azzurri squad. If i didnt support juve i would pick another random NT that i would prefer to see win.

I daresay we are caught between a rock and a hard place and this wont get us anywhere. Lets leave it at you think im a hypocrite and i think you dont understand.

I like Brazil. Should I cheer for them over England because I prefer their style of football, I prefer the country over England and I prefer the people of Rio over the Mancunians?

What it really boils down to Andy, in your opinion, is choice. You have a problem with people choosing to support the Azzurri.

But this leaves out people like me, who didn't actively choose to support to Azzurri. Like I said, they told me to support the team and I guess it somehow stuck. I don't remember not supporting Italy, I definitely don't remember picking a national team.

I was introduced to Juventus pretty much the same way. Lots of young boys don't "choose" a club team either. I could be an ass and do some smart ass reasoning here and say that you're not a true fan because you probably did choose to support them, but I find that bullshit.

No, because you don't like Brazil over England. If they play Italy you can cheer for Brazil if you like Brazil better.

I would not cheer Italy over Belgium.

It would make sense if you didn't already have a nationality.

But you do, unless Belgium truly does not exist.

However I would rather support Brazil over England for the reason I've listed Andries. Then again I'm English so that would be wrong no?

Not in my book. If you really don't like the country, why cheer for it?

One can choose to do anything. I have a right to not respect that choice, however.

To me, it makes no sense to support Brazil, even if I like the women, football and carnival. That's the bottom line.

Because I'm tied to the UK, It's my country of birth for a start.
So? I was born in some city I really don't like.

You think the country's shitty, but every four years you're there in your t-shirt holding your flag?

    Now THAT's odd.

It's sort of funny how folks like Jasper demonize nationality and patriotism. I guess he just hopes his home fails and becomes worse off than before.

    Talk about sado-masochists.
