Yes, but they had issues even with him. He was on the pitch for their 7-2 defeat against Villa.
It’s interesting that when other coach’s like Klopp have big injury problems in their squad and fail spectacularly, it’s chalked up here as a good explanation for their failure and they still a great coach.

When Allegri had big injury problems here his last season, it was considered entirely his fault, he was constantly insulted, and people wanted him sacked even though he cruised scudetto with 90 pts.

And now we’re seeing the same with Pirlo. Squad has dealt with a ton of injuries to important players, and illness too.

I agree with everything you said. I would even go further and say that even without injuries, Klopp had been doing a poor job this season. They were poor in attack, leaky in defense. He just has a plan A, which worked great for 2-3 years, but teams have figured them out and Klopp is clueless with coming up with a new idea.

My problem with Allegri at the end of his tenure is not so much our tactics, but the fact that he and the team looked emotionally and mentally drained- which I do not blame him for. 5 years at a club like Juve takes its toll on you.

:agree:

I was most annoyed with his ridiculous spats with the imbeciles in the media that last year. He let it get to him and took it way too far which wasn’t a good look and I doubt it helped the squad mentality. It was either wholesale rejuvenation of the squad or allegri getting sacked. Was why I was somewhat okay with moving on from him as long as we got a top coach. Spending a fortune on Ronaldo probably ruled out the former, but in hindsight, elite coaches don’t grow on trees, and we had no plans to replace him with one so rejuvenation of the squad for him and his wants specifically probably would have been a better choice.

Klopp is another who likely burns out players physically and mentally over a couple years. And we’re seeing that now. I’d say he also got quite lucky in facing Tottenham in CL final, vs Max facing treble winning Barca and Zidane’s Madrid, all-time great teams.

Leicester, but yeah, seeing as their title win was a miracle, I see why they shouldn’t be counted as bad title defenders.
Ah of course, yeah. They were always likely to struggle for top 4 the following season as they lost Kanté and it was always a bit of a one-off season, but 12th was pretty abysmal.

Liverpool were one of the top two best teams in the world the past two seasons and without their defence have completely fallen apart and given up this season. Shifting midfielders into defence has shown what dirty work those midfielders were doing in helping the attack, because the goals have dried up.

United are back again, for only the 13th time this season. Does scoring a penalty class as Bruno Fernandes actually doing something in a big game?

Chelsea in 2015-16 were awful too.

Luke Shaw scores a snooker shot. Cancelo stepped forward there and lost the gamble but Shaw and co still had a lot to do.

TBH United have sucker-punched City here, but City haven't been as sharp at either end.

United will draw with some mid table team next, regardless. I do love the cocky swagger OGS always has, as if he is the bee's knees as a coach. He's always had a bit of an edge.

Martial misses a sitter.

City are all over the place at the back. Walker just came on for Cancelo, who was ran ragged.

Shows how if you give away cheap goals the game becomes much more difficult.

This game reminds me of their CL game against Lyon.

Stupid mistakes at the back cost them cheap goals and when they have to chase the game, they look even more exposed on the break.
