Arsenal being a pathetic joke of a team is nothing new. The rot started in the last 4-5 years of the Wenger regime, he just kept papering over their cracks by somehow keeping them (for the most part)in the top 4, but really they are fucked at all levels, from recruitment, to manager choices, style of play and not to mention the general toxicity of their fanbase.

It’s basically the owner being greedy as fuck. High prices, big fanbase and very little investement for one of the most popular teams in the world. People still somehow expect them being better than this, even reality is that even Everton invests more than them.

Well, last year he beat Liverpool in the league, got some pretty good results and tactical outthought Pep in the FA cup final. He played some old school catenaccio last year and banked it on Auba getting the odd goal, which I liked. This year he can't do that anymore and he seems way out of his depth.

Then there is the eternal Özil problem that he will get beaten with every time they lose, not to mention what is going on behind the scenes.

Problem at Arsenal is that there is no internal pressure to win, to be a great club. They don't have that mentality. They had a mini era under George Graham with some great leaders, and then Wenger built a dynasty off the back of those players in their twilight years, plus revolutionary foreign additions. But since those leaders and later guys like Vieira and Henry left they have gradually been left behind by Liverpool and City, even Leicester in recent years.

I really hope football clubs stop this stupid trend of hiring rookie ex player managers. It has become a silly marketing move off late especially after Zidane's success which sort of opened the floodgates.

Please get back to the real coaches ffs. Enough of clapping hands on the touchline and looking good in a tie and a suit. All the rookie coaches need to go back to the drawing board and restart from the bottom.

Define 'real' coaches? At some point we need a transition from household names like Benitez, Allerdyce and Hodgson getting a new job every season. We can't really build on these 60+ years old to be eternal. There are some good mangers coming through with very little experience like Simone Inzaghi or Hansi Flick.

Lord Lampard has actually some coaching experience at Derby though. Valencia appointing Neville or us appointing Pirlo are way more questionable moves though

Any coach that actually has credentials to be hired by a top club. Ole, Pirlo, Arteta, Lampard and probably Xavi soon would never in a million years be hired by their clubs if they were not playing for them previously. And any other coach, unrelated to the club like they are, would be fired a long time ago if he had the same results they have.

Couldn't agree more but most of them were hired because of the dire situation the clubs were in. OLG and Arteta were caretaker managers. Lord Lampard was appointed because Chelsea were banned from the transfer window, had a shit squad and nobody really wanted the Chelsea job.

Allegri was very interested in the Chelsea job. Right when Sarri moved he said the goal was to find a project that is interesting, did not want a sabbatical. Only job available at that point was Chelsea. 2+2=4

Only when Lampard got hired he said he'll take a sabbatical.

When I mean real coaches, I mean coaches who've learnt their trade through years of experience starting from the bottom and gradually establishing themselves towards the top. Coaches with solid body of work.
Some of the current ex player managers dint have to go through that grind and were offered a big team job right away because of their success as players. This is the trend that's gotta stop just because one man had tremendous success with an all time great squad, doesn't mean all of them are gonna turn out the same way.
Who talked about relying on 60 yr olds ? There is certainly no shortage of great young managers coming through.
