What about creating a journal?

We can collect writings, not only match reports, articles, opinions anything like that. The can be collected and summed up in one pdf in a proper layout. I think this will be amazing, our own publications. We need a proofreader and an editor, the members submit their articles and that's it.
Now this sounds much more interesting. Excellent idea.

The ability to decline without ever being asked, and to subliminally send answer to said unknown / unasked question through the internet without even ones self being aware of such an occurance is an interesting ideal....
Indeed.

I'm probably not going to read those match reports nor ratings since those are always available everywhere and to be honest I like other sources better. If you ask me who should write their reports, only few names pop up in my mind. Jeeks, swag, Elisa and Seven.

@Stuart: I think we would use "Italian" ratings, because that's what most of us are used to. I'm also not a big fan of giving players 8 or 9 too easily, because in reality it's almost impossible to succeed in 80 percent of your actions as a football player.

Thats what I wanted to say. Italian ratings could be the best and much more suitable.

I would love to do this but as Zlatan rightly said , i aint as regular as i used to be, not just here but in actually watching matches in full as i am working undercover in some secret mission(he he)
But whenever i do watch a game in full, not bloody highlites then i will give my overview and endeavour to give grades as long as you do not ask me to grade Capello.
As for people , you are gonna vote or pick or whatever method you decide, i personally will not like to see an obvious anti Dp, pro Dp, anti Zlatan or pro Zlatan person involved at all.
I am not afraid of mentioning names, but at this time i will desist from doing so to the major culprits in this forum
If everything was equal and ppl could watch matches regularly , i personally will nominate the following (but i do not know how much they watch due to my irregularity nowadays)
Vinny, Sergio, shadowfax, Tom, Andy, sallyinzaghi, flakis, Swag, stuart, Dominic, Desmond, the Milan guests , (as you cannot get more objective than that),Cronios, Holdon, Ali, Baggio and some others whose names escape me this minute
Well, i do not remember turning down the job , just said i cannot do it regularly or can't i read or write anymore?
As for marks themselves, frankly i cannot see a Juve player getting 9 out of 10 in any given match, not with the system we play
If i may ask something of the mods on here, it will be if this project does actually take off, i will like in this particular thread/s for unnecessary posts to be deleted. I mean even on this thread , you still read posts that are not helping but petty squabbles

Possibly Marty could set you all up as a special usergroup who can post in a new subforum, much like Jeeks. Alternatively, we could do what you suggest!

My apologies denco, however we were thinking the people who we choose would be available to see at the very least 75% of the matches and give their ratings and such thereafter. By your reputation on this forum I would like to have you as well, however this all depends on how much and how frequently you can contribute.

That sounds like an efficient idea, John.

Alrighty, folks... a little post-holiday hangover catch-up is in order. I think I'm up to date now...

No offense guys, however can we cut the chit-chat, secondary objectives and all and actually get this project going?

Greg, first thing to do is in your mod forum set up a thread with that list and have the mods decide on who they want, then if you want to please run the list by me. I will send you a list of the people I would choose as well, and you mods can sort it out from there. This is the first step to this task...I feel like I'm project manager on the Apprentice here.

After selecting the right people to do this rating system we need Marty and Keith to come up with some sort of plan for WHERE and HOW to implement this idea...I have no clue what coding Keith has to do or what even the possibilities are for such a program.

These are the members who have officially declined the task:

denco
Greg
Erkka
Paul Shadowfax
Thanks for the great PM, Andy. That will be a good kick-start to all of this, and I'll get the ball rolling in the mod forum end. (And you do have this project manager on the Apprentice thing down. :D)

Also, from the follow-up posts, I see that denco is still in. Paul too. Will come up with a PM I can send to everyone to at least narrow down the candidates through opt-in or opt-out.

Oh, and for the record, I agree that standardizing is important. And, IMO, it makes the most sense to follow the rating system of the Italian press.

When Keith makes it possible IMO, meaning when he does tall the neccessary coding.

IMO we houldnt rush this thing, we've already missed a quarter of the season, no need to get started by the next match at all cost.

I'm not very sure about those people.

True, but if he gives DP a 9 every game, we don't have a fair system anymore.

Seems you don't read lot of my posts after each game Se7en. However, you can relax, I'm gonna be fair If I was given the green light to do this.

I agree with Stuart on this one, we should use the Italian syste, with ratings from 1-10, which, in reality, would be from 3-9.

A 10 should be a performance that happens once in a few years, and absolutely historic match for a certain player, perhaps Sheva's 4 goals, while, IMO, a 9 would be fantastic match, perhaps a hattrick, a goal and an assist or two and in general a great performance.

However, IMO, usually the highest mark will be an 8, which would be a very good or excellent performance.

7 would be a good match in which the player achieved most of what was asked of him.

6 a decent, average performance.

5 below average, not satisfying.

4 very poor performance.

3 absolutely woeful, pathetic performance.
