The problem is if he under performs too much, we'll be stuck with a player on high wages for a long time. And he has shown that he is perfectly capable of under performing for long periods of time. If he was consistent even 15 mil would have been reasonable.

Even if you are right (and now we all know that those are only rumors) I still like that the management FINALLY are stepping in the right direction by offering Dybala a salary according to his performances in the last 4 seasons. Better late than never, right?

Well, it's not. Giving him a 4-5 year contract on 8 + 2 mil wages is a big risk for a 28 year old player who's notorious for inconsistency. It's a difficult situation and Dybala is not making it any less complicated.

Signing him on a long term contract on ridiculous wages is destroying capital too. It's a lose-lose situation.

his remaining book value was ~5m last summer, his book value will be next to zero this summer. his net salary * 1.85, that is his yearly cost if he stays with a low agent fee. add agent fee divided by the length of his contract in years if there's a sign on fee. anyway, with 8m net, it would be around 15m, lower than his current costs. now he costs around 19-20m. some selected examples: berna 15m, arthur 22m, bonucci 17.5m, alex sandro 13.5m, de ligt 28m, tek 14m, de sciglio + perin combined ~16m.

Then... he was perm injured and nobody was interested.
Even now that he could sign a pre-contract with anyone! there are not even rumors about any team interested.
A little bit PSG, that may get him after losing Mbappè in the summer but even that is a weak rumor right now.

But anyway he'll go for free.
We won't invest that big of a salary on him it's crystal clear and he want his last big-uber-super contract which we aren't going to give.

In any case him leaving for free will be the last nail in the Juventus coffin. Things like this don't happen to serious clubs unless some external shit is involved (Messi case).

But we have already done that, his contract has ran out to the point he's allowed to talk and sign with anyone. Question isnt what we should've or could've done, but whats the best move forward.
