I love their ignorance concerning salaries that we pay to our players. They think we pay 2x, 3x less. Did a quick calculation of Rooney's income, since he's the highest paid EPL player and apparently earns 12.480.000 GBP per year. Everything above 150.000 GBP of yearly income is taxated at 45%, 31.000-150.000 at 40% and 0-31.000 (10.600 personal allowance) GBP at 20%. To sum it up it turns out he earns 6.7m GBP or 7.8m Euros at current exchange rate. Certainly not a case that they could offer significantly higher salary to lure him away, considering Pogs will earn 5.5m net in 2016/17 and 6.5m a year after that.
BREAKING: Man United are close to agreeing a deal for Paul Pogba by offering a €119m bid and £250k wages. #MUFC

People always seem to exaggerate how big the difference in salaries are. To be honest the main difference lies in the fact, that squad players in Premier League often have large salaries aswell - this also implies that clubs are spending around the same ratio of their income on wages as italian and spanish clubs, and therefore they have to prioritize as well, they aren't an endless sea of cash.
160 million for United is nothing. They generate that much in 15 minutes. They will still have enough money to sign Bale, Messi, and Neymar this summer.
