Completely missed that yesterday, cheers.
Again: he can dance whenever he wants, he won.

I don't understand the hate Lyles get. Even weirder is people getting upset over 100m sprinters dancing and shouting. Those guys have been doing that ever since the event was first conceived. To criticise Lyles for stuff he did to get in the zone after he won, is insane.

You need some comprehension skills before ranting lol. He is not talking about post race, but pre race lol. Was same before semi finals race, Lyles was beating his chest, making faces, overall animated colourful character that shows out for the camera.

The fact he was referring to pre race stuff is evident by the fact Jay was joking about Lyles being a slow starter, and maybe his focus being off due to the antics lol

Its allways cool to celebrate after a race.

Before race it's funny to see contrast of peeps, some cool and calm, some in deep prayer, some close eyes like zen Buddhists meditating about nirvana.

Then you have the flamboyant types acting up for the camera, doing pre arranged poses or gestures like they a marvel avenger. Seen one african/Jamaican do the dybala face mask thing lol. Seville was doing a zoolander type pointing at camera poses.

Lyles is in firmly last group of runners pre race.

So am I. I phrased it poorly.

I can't stand it when people criticise 100m runners for their antics before a race. They stick their necks out. If they lose, everyone's going to call them out. As is right. But Lyles didn't lose. He won. If he wins, you keep quiet. Especially because their antics are part of what makes the 100m a spectacular event.

Even for a pedant like myself I have to draw the line at how white snow is.

Again, I wrote it poorly. I'm talking about dancing before the race.

I just completely disagree. I think you can do whatever the hell you want before a 100m race in terms of theatrics. It's part of what makes the 100m. And yes, if Lyles loses, you get to mock him. You get to criticise him for not focussing or whatever.

But the dude won. And he won in a PR. How is that ever a lack of focus?

Think my Britishness is more likely the reason to not prefer celebrations before the race. I know full well that this might be more of an American thing, or particularly black American, part of the bravado culture that some people bring. As someone who has watched the NBA for many years, you see this sort of thing all the time, it's just not my preference.

Usain Bolt was the king of showboating lol, and he was wildly popular for it. Its not a big deal. Just part of somes persona.
Yeah after the race he milked it, but I personally don't mind that. He was a bit cheeky before races and did his silly poses and stuff but I think Lyles' was absurd before the final yesterday.

Anyway, this is a really tedious discussion as it's down to personal preference.

I'm probably more conservative than I was when I was younger, but you know what I'm referring to. There is quite a gap between how expressive British and American people are in general (go to any vacation spot with both, for an example), and black Americans, from my white British, listening to Ice-T albums, and watching NBA and Friday movies since I was a kid perspective, have another layer of charisma and theatrical culture to them than white Americans.

Muhammad Ali really pushed the envelope in the U.S. and his "I am the greatest!" routine. My father used to tell me how he came off as so arrogant.

But he backed it all up. So there's that.

I know, man. It was the same thing with Brazilians back home. Motherfuckers can't keep quiet in the cinema and always gotta be loud and over the top.

I don't think you really grasp the mindset and stress of a 100m sprinter.

They need to be as hyped up and focussed as possible, because you want to react to the gun as quickly as possible. Sure, it's not only the first 10 meters that count, but if the difference is literally in the thousands you need every advantage you can get. That's why you see many of these guys showboating, they need it to energize themselves. To me Lyles came across as an intensely nervous athlete, who did, to his credit, manage to deal with his nerves as soon as he was actually running.
