Indeed I am. All of the big money transfers we have made over the years have played a major part in our respective seasons, always commanding a starting role. We don't spend lots of money for players to sit on the bench all the time, a la Inter.

How much did Milan spend on Redondo? 17 Million? How about Martin Laursen? Jose "Horible" Mari ring a bell to you? His compatriot Javi Moreno? How about Chamot? Coloccini? All of these players were bought for substantial amounts of money, and none of them played major roles for Milan. Indeed, we are much more efficient with our money. Thought you would at least admit that.

of course we have duds.....all teams did. However, Jose Mari and Javi Moreno were hardly the next best thing to sliced bread. They were brought on as an OPTION to SHEVA-INZAGHI and not as starting material.

considering the bargain buys that helped us I think its a really terrible assesssment. (bargain: Pancaro, Cafu, Crespo (half salary), re-sign Costacurta (incredible sub)

Well imo.. yes hes worth every penny... But if you wanna look at the facts... the reality....

Alex does in fact cost juventus just about the lowest of any of our first team squad.... you have to look past jus his salary.... All the figures are readily available ... look it up... he costs juve fvck all

I'm not talking about duds, I'm talking about players who we spent money on who played a huge part in the season, whether it be for the good or for the bad. Miccoli, Di Vaio, VDS, and Legrottaglie all played major parts in the season(s), however the latter was certainly for the bad. I'm not painting the picture of Milan being like Inter because that is not the case. All that I'm saying is when we buy players for big money they usually play a big part in the season. You can't say the same for Jose Mari, Javi Moreno, or some others for Milan.

One thing that football does not really go on about too much like in North America is player salaries...they concentrate on transfer fees much more. For this reason, I am not familiar with what Alex is paid..but I remember it being VERY HIGH.
He is worth it for one reason in my opinion: the image. An all Italian boy will always be much more welcomed by advertisers and the public than a foreign star...they are much easier to market in part because their are few when it comes to attackers. Intangibles when you buy a Del Piero, Vieri or Gilardino (not comparing them Gobbi's just stating a point...don't go nuts).

What did Legro do for Juve?
I personally always admired VDS but he came at a bad time.
Miccoli?? One season....last season...the race was between Milan and Rome...so I don't really so how great his contribution to a mediocre season could be.

The second part of your post...it depends...Milan have as of recent had a knack in picking up players they can utilize to the fullest: yes again I speak of Cafu and Pancaro. People call Rui Costa a bust to which I totally disagree....he was instrumental in the CL title and has become a CLUTCH player..the GO to guy.
Javi Moreno and Jose Mari were out of place at Milan but they also arrived at an odd time...Pre-Ancelotti...and at Terim's short lived 'reign'. However, once again Andy its fair to say that they were not BIG NAME buys....to me big name buys for Milan as of recent have been:
Nesta, Rui Costa, Inzaghi, Stam (Kaka did not make as much of a headline as the latter): I don't think it was money badly spent.

By the way....interesting note: Pirlo, Crespo and Seedorf: former Inter players.

Its the comment above that I don't agree with.

Purchasing Zlatan and Emerson in one summer and adding hefty contracts like Cannavaro to your payroll in one summer is nothing I would call 'bargain thrifty shop' purchases.
In fact, look at post-CL Milan-Juve final purchases:

Milan: Kaka, Cafu, Pancaro, Dhorasoo, Stam.

Juventus: Miccoli, Legrotagglie, Appiah, Zlatan, Emerson, Zebina, Cannavaro...

I say again.

When Juventus pay reasonable sums of money for certain players, those players usually play a big part or have a say in the outcome of the season. When we pay money for players, they usually are protagonists in the squad, not sitting on the bench. I have heard many times from certain analysts that Juventus only buys players that we need, and I concur with them. I have never heard such a comment given to Milan, and I must say that I'm not surprised because I know the evidence as well as you. Players like Moreno, Jose Mari, Laursen, so on and so on were bought by Milan, for heavy amounts of cash for their respective worth, only to sit on the bench.

My point in all of this is when Juventus buys a player for a reasonable sum of money, that player will certainly be played because we need that player. That player will have a huge say in the season, unless injured like Salas. Whether those players we bought are a success or not is another story, however our intentions with their signature is for them to take a big role for our club. Milan spent a lot of money on players only for them to sit on the bench. Indeed, it's always great to have good players on the bench, however it's not always needed. Therefore, I would have to say that we are more efficient on the transfer market.
