It wasn't like he was a fan before, of US and west, clash was coming either way. But what sparked his enemity was after Iraq and Saddam threatening to invade the Saudis, the royal family turned to the Americans for aid and defense. Having Americans troops on the Holy Land to defend it ( the oil) was pretty much the ultimate insult to him and zealots like him. A defenite sign of Muslim oppression changing from East to Western fist.

Changed goal from a more simple Mujahideen supporting fellow Muslims on regular battle grounds (who the US found it smart to excessively encourage to become more extremist Vs the Soviets who they said hates Muslims, litterally helped them gain power across Muslim world instead of Arab secular groups that were less likely to hate soviets...) to bringing the fight to the US in irregular fear tactics of terrorism, from Yemen to attacks in East African targets (couple distant relatives who died there), to the ultimate attack that seems to made people think they sprung out from nowhere out of the blue. When they obviously didn't.

The biggiest duuuh reaction in history if this is confirmed. Litterally the financial backbone of Sunni group terrorism for decades, but too much of a supple oil tit and convenient ally to upset the status quo for whatever current administration that's in charge.

I doubt that would change even with a mad man like Trump in charge. Him and his friends would get Carlyle group like set up to grease them for foreseeable future too.
Sorry, but the headline is misleading. They're talking about some individuals here.

Of course it's not a whole cabinet of ministers or the entire royal family (tho both entities the same kinda) who are behind it or funds terrorism in general. But it's clear as fuck alot of influential and wealthy Saudis back terrorism groups and fuel the fire of extremism. It's essentially their way to exert their power since they don't have the capability of doing it with a standing army. It's litterally insane how dismissive it all has been in the gigantic direct role Saudis have on terrorism. Some things can't be swept under the rug for too long however inconvenient it is tho.

Graham and his Joint Inquiry co-chair in the House, former Representative Porter Goss (R-FL) -- who went on to be director of the CIA -- say the 28 pages were excised from their report by the Bush Administration in the interest of national security. Graham wouldn't discuss the classified contents, but says the 28 pages outline a network of people he believes supported hijackers in the U.S. He tells Kroft he believes the hijackers were "substantially" supported by Saudi Arabia. Asked if the support was from government, rich people or charities, the former senator replies, "all of the above."

Saudi officials have long denied that the kingdom had any role in the Sept. 11 plot, and the 9/11 Commission found “no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or senior Saudi officials individually funded the organization.” But critics have noted that the commission’s narrow wording left open the possibility that less senior officials or parts of the Saudi government could have played a role.
Btw - It not that uncommon that legit businesses unintentionally fund illegal groups.
