Inter issue Juventus denial
Wednesday 18 August, 2004

The Nerazzurri have issued an official statement to deny reports of a swap deal involving Cristiano Zanetti, Julio Cruz and Mauro Camoranesi.

“We have no negotiations in place with Juventus,” assured technical director Marco Branca on the club’s official website.

The denial was issued after newspaper reports suggested that the Bianconeri would take Italian international Zanetti in a straight swap deal with Camoranesi.

The Argentine-born winger would be a cheaper alternative to first choice target Cesar of Lazio, while Zanetti (pictured) has always been one of Fabio Capello’s favourite midfielders.

As for Cruz, the former Bologna forward has been suggested as a reinforcement for both Roma and Lazio.

“These are two players who we consider important for this team,” added Branca. “There is nothing more to say about the matter.”

Tellingly, there was no mention of the widely reported talks between Inter defender Fabio Cannavaro and Real Madrid, suggesting this is more than a mere rumour.

Meanwhile, there are new reports claiming that Inter have set an ultimatum for their on-going attempt to sign Cesar.

It’s believed Roberto Mancini’s advisors have set out a plan whereby they will complete the Brazilian’s move before August 27 or look elsewhere for a left-sided winger.

Other options open to them are Udinese’s Marek Jankulovski, who seems closer to Juventus, and Santiago Solari of Real Madrid. This is a particularly unlikely scenario, as the Argentine refused a switch to the San Siro last year, prompting a long-running legal battle with Real.
