We still need, at the least, a budget to get us to that election though.

As someone that considers themselves an independent, personally I just see it as selfish. I care a lot more about government functioning than highlighting stupidity of Republicans, and I'd give them a lot of credit for trying to reach out and create a compromise. As for McCarthy, he's probably done anyway.
Oh I agree. But that’s how the representatives think. They don’t want any Republican take credit for anything and McCarthy would’ve done just that to perhaps neutralize the heat he would be getting from the MAGA wing. Sadly, this is how Washington works.

what do hear about it that doesn't happen in NY?
The first thing that comes to mind is the whole car break-in thing, where people just leave their doors unlocked to avoid have to replace windows OR people doing that and coming back to people sleeping in the back seat sounds wild to me. Also from what I hear, BART is like Mad Max. Yeah sure you'll see some shit occasionally taking any form of MTA transportation, but 90% of the time it's normal. Aside from that, it mostly sounds like every problem we have here, but multiplied.

But again it's just from what I hear, since I've never been there.

Homeless stealing dinghy’s in San Fran bay to rob the rich San Frans boats…homeless knifing liberal activists that fought for legal injection sites for said homeless…sanctuary cities unsanctuary’ing themselves when the problem is now on their doorstep and increasing…

can’t make this stuff up better than liberal cities

We talking about murica, but do you even have the patience to live in a big city anymore?
Fair point. I certainly don’t. And that’s in large part due to nonsense liberal policies on this, that, and the other. Crime, immigration, drugs, tent cities, you name it.

Part of it is also the insanity of Reagan era GOP/Mulroney era Conservative policies on mental health facilities that shut down all the mental hospitals/asylums without anything to replace them. A lot of the real crazies on the street would be in those facilities today if they still existed. Of course, the irony is that Reagan had the backing of liberal advocacy groups on the issue who wanted those facilities shut down over cases of abuse of patients, etc.

So you have GOP shutting down mental health facilities from the 60s (Reagan in Cali) through the 80s, and you add 30+ years since then of Democrat wishy-washy nonsense policies on top of that and you arrive where we are today with most downtown cores of major cities pretty much unliveable.
