The national park system in the USA is awesome.

But I do have the feeling that they are becoming a bit crowded and at times you feel like you're in Disneyland.
that’s why you have to go on hikes, a lot less people once you stray away from the main hubs where most tourists walk. Can take a few hours but that’s the beauty of it for me.

Not all parks are like Yosemite, Yellowstone, Acadia or Smokey Mountains.
my best experience personally was Big Bend in west Texas.

Feeling bad for all the German tourists that had plans to visit Yosemite. I was there in the spring and it was full of them. Gorgeous park
The stereotype of German tourists in the parks of the American West is that of the guy who steps out of the tour bus at the lowest point of Death Valley, takes a photo of the 86m below sea level sign and a thermometer, gets back on the bus, and has a Carlsberg in his air-conditioned hotel room.

It’s wild that this happens in a first world country. Though I only remember a few.

I think there was a shorter one in 2017(?) when Trump wanted more money for they wall. I think the first was when Gingrich wanted more cuts to Clinton’s budget in the 90s.
Yep it’s nuts anyway you look at it

And Canyonlands….

It’s massive. But going there, I saw much less of a point of going to the Grand Canyon.

Especially if you’re in nature to get away from goober tourists.
Canyonlands is great, but it’s like 90% backcountry and 10% normal national park stuff. Which means it’s generally pretty empty but not a ton to do if you’re just visiting.

Zion is amazing too, but hordes of tourists since Covid have made it a bit meh to visit. Arches is much the same.
They do have a good amount of trails but yeah, most of them will have tourists at this point. The more difficult ones like Angles Landing won’t have as many tho. And one thing I wish I did was camp, all the tourists go away once the sun sets so you have a lot more freedom at night.
