Ok please tell me what it is, it doesnt exist here I think.
Its when congress can't approve a new budget so federal agencies, buildings parks etc temporarily close, non essential govt workers dont get paid, and I believe certain social benefit programs may be cut off as well. iirc its happened at least once or twice in the 21st century but didn't last more than a few weeks.

Probably, largely, won't affect most Americans unless you are a govt employee or it drags on and you rely on social benefits

It’s wild that this happens in a first world country. Though I only remember a few.

I think there was a shorter one in 2017(?) when Trump wanted more money for they wall. I think the first was when Gingrich wanted more cuts to Clinton’s budget in the 90s.

I saw that Arizona and Utah will be funding the Grand Canyon and Zion parks respectively to keep them open. :D

Basically a state bail-out of federal government.

The last one in 2018 lasted 34 days and was the longest in past 30 years, I think.

Feeling bad for all the German tourists that had plans to visit Yosemite. I was there in the spring and it was full of them. Gorgeous park

The national park system in the USA is awesome.

But I do have the feeling that they are becoming a bit crowded and at times you feel like you're in Disneyland.

that’s why you have to go on hikes, a lot less people once you stray away from the main hubs where most tourists walk. Can take a few hours but that’s the beauty of it for me.
