You don't understand correctly. It is taught as the theory of evolution and a few people get upset because religion. The only reason that evolution remains a theory is the power of religion.
Yes we have a high percentage of Christian people in our country. But we have the freedom to study any religion or no religion as well. Also, it is unconstitutional for schools that receive federal or state funding to teach or favor a religion. We have a separation of church and state. If you wish for your child to receive a religious education there are private schools that provide that. If you are unable to afford such an education, there is also home schooling and scholarships given by the people that run these schools.
A state mandated order to teach religion as if it were science is nothing less that state indoctrination and is completely and utterly contrary to the values upon which our nation was founded. To argue for the inclusion of religion in these classes is wrong. There is no discussion. There is no reply, no argument. The answer is no. Period.
