I know what it is meant for. And I also know that is why Andy (and others) are saying it's not inherently racist. But it is. It is thinly veiled racism. Trump says it is so important to keep Mexicans out that, apart from all the physical obstructions they already face today, you need to build a wall. The reason this is so important is not economic migration, but this:
"The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc"
"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. "
This characterisation is not only unfair and incorrect. It is also racist. And I'd bet it's not even what Trump himself believes. This is him appealing to a large xenophobic sentiment. This is reaching out to the they took our jobs segment of your society. And before you say that the US do not have a problem with racism: you actually have to state your race/ethnicity on a hell of a lot of forms in the US. Do you think they ask about your race in Europe? $#@!, I didn't even know what my ethnicity was supposed to be until I went to the States.
So yeah, it is racist. And yeah, you guys do have a problem. But you go ahead and ignore that ugly truth.
