Minimum wage is one of those things that do little good to the people its supposed to help(low skilled workers) but it helps the liberals and lefties of the world sleep better at night.

Its very simple, when the price for anything goes up , demand for it goes down, the market will not pay a higher price for anything including labor than what it values it at.

Depends on what you'd describe as failing, but it has been working detrimentally to the advantage of the majority of people for two,three decades.

I can see his point, but I think he's a bit too idealistic here. Yes, a job in fastfood is something a student should be doing. And paying a student 7-8 dollars an hour is okay. But we see adults who have to provide for families do this sort of job. Those people need a better wage. Either you give everyone minimum wage or you give these people benefits. Better yet, give them basic income.

Do not, however, expect people who are now only qualified to drive trucks or serve fastfood to retrain for higher skilled jobs. That's not feasible at all for a number of reasons.

As a society, work time reduction would be the optimum solution for all relatively low skilled jobs, but that is virtually impossible to achieve due to political reasons.

Not that it is relevant at all; but i dont come from a rich family at all, in fact my family probably lean more to the left than you do when it comes to socioeconomic ideology.

I never said that. I sometimes joke around with it, but i say all the time how ridiculous it is that people like Corbyn and Sanders are considered communists.

Right now it's cheaper to pay people to do it. And robots is not a good answer. At my job, most of the work is automated but there are still people who need to feed the machines, do hand packaging, put on labels, etc. Almost every factory is mostly automated but they still require people to do the entire job. Robots is not an answer.

And we are far from capable of letting robots drive trucks amongst the street with everyone else. What if they hit a pothole, or the tire blows out, etc

You could argue that minimum wage keeps the poor surviving but held back from striving from anything more. The same discussions come up with Fair Trade coffee and whether that just creates an indentured class that would never do anything different.

You could argue that way, but it's a nonsense argument.

Mobility is the highest among developed countries with strong Unions, high amount of tax paid velfare, relatively high minimum wages, relatively high unemployment benefits and so on.

There's not a 1:1 ratio between motivation and personal income, it's just one of many factors. Homo Economicus is a hoax.

Hoax might be a strong word for the weakhearted. Call it a myth instead. Doesn't change the point; that we are Homo Sapiens not Homo Economicus, and that people and societies are human beings and cultures before we are consumers and economies.
