obviously the H-1B visa should be a thing for the very top talent but its also clearly not being used for just that, is being abused to hire cheap labor, and people who can't leave the company without getting deported.. Indian or not American workers should not have to compete with the rest of the world for jobs and housing.

Elon is obviously a liar as Tesla is one of the biggest abusers of the H1B
And yet some people believed Trump was any different :santa:

Yeah that needs to stop
For sure, but since the reason we got here was to provide cheap labor for the robber barons, I'm not sure we're moving in the right direction.
BTW one hilarious side effect of H1-B dominated by Indians is that because in US immigration law there's a quota for every country for Green Cards every year, H1B Indians have to wait in obscenely long lines (20-30 years) for permanent residency. I know a senior director in my former workplace still on H1B. another Indian guy I knew immigrated to Canada after working several years in the US since it was a lot easier to obtain Canadian citizenship and then come back to the US at some point.
There's a lot of lobbying to lift that country quota btw (which will ensure the new permanent residents to be 70%+ from India), and I think that one has a higher chance of success than ending H1B abuses.

Yeah I work/worked with many H1Bs, it's exploitative for sure, but it's also rife with fraud and false credentials, not to mention the caste drama and the rampant nepotism.

@Bjerknes

weather update pls - storming here (rain/thunder). Tornado watch in WV or heading that way? Hearing whispers of blizzard?
Nah, just a squall line with some embedded severe storms, nothing serious.

But yes, the climo is setting up for some serious cold first half of January. There might be a couple storm chances for a Miller A type event, which is what the 93 superstorm was. But a lot has to come together for that happen. I’m hoping for the best.

We really need a good blizzard. Haven’t had one since 2016. But regardless the ski resorts are looking great in WV. Could be the best ski season in 5 years.
I know - I’m drying to have some snow. Got new sleds last year and haven’t gotten to bully any kids yet

@Bjerknes how snow has WV gotten already? Or is it planning on being the best in five years?

I have been to a couple ski resorts already and they were both 100% open, and it’s not even January yet. Timberline was 100% open when I went almost 2 weeks ago now. If they get a lot of cold, which they have had already, along with some lifting through storms or wind because of the elevation and micro climate, they will have the best skiing in the mid-Atlantic along with Snowshoe. There are chances of snow basically every day for the next week there. Canaan Valley is beautiful.
