Because Crimea is Russia's sole warm water port. Literally the only one

Zelensky’s words are continuing until they have all the Russian controlled territories. Although I didn’t disagree with that, if that’s an operation not reachable within x amount of time than honestly a diplomatic solution probably is the best option. The time frame is biased of course, but I’d rather avoid a 5 to 10 year war if it’s about those pieces of territory.

Didn’t we already expect that effect when the sanctions were imposed?
I don't think there is room for a diplomatic solution. Even if Ukraine was willing to cede Crimea to Russia, the Russkies would never accept Ukraine joining NATO and there is no way Ukraine takes any deal without ensuring their own safety from a future invasion.

I tried to find what percentage it was but couldn't.
Well I couldn’t either but I calculated based on GDP and budget numbers. As I said I'm not sure why we should reference an expenditure to GDP. It's dishonest at best.

P.s. didn't mean you're dishonest. The writer of the article could be.

I don’t know that it can be called dishonest. It’s a pretty common measure used in all sorts of charts. Percentage of GDP. It’s just saying aid relative to the size of economy. I don’t know that this makes the writer dishonest, but it doesn’t paint the full picture. Quite a few European nations have much higher federal budgets as a percentage of GDP (over 50%) compared to the US which comes in around 42%. Canada is around 46% iirc.

Budget as sum of revenue and outlay is about 42% of the GDP, but what I’m saying is that you have to compare a certain expenditure (Ukraine aid in this case) to total expenditures.

We need an age cap on politicians. Does it suck for the occasional older politician who doesn’t have cognitive decline as early? Sure. But we need to stop having countries run by 70+ senile dotards. It’s super fucked up that Joe Biden is president while clearly too cognitively impaired for the role.
Agreed, it should be the same as retirement age. At 65, you're out. Thanks, but no more public service or lobbying.

Dotard is a money word, too, apt.

I think consecutive term limits is a better alternative, you get 2 go's then you fuck off. Reminds me of how sparta fucked around their term limits for admirals for Lisander and that ended up fucking em over. The ego is bound to get drunk on power, and the longer the term the more entrenched the office and the worse the chase.

McConnell himself says we do have term limits: it’s called elections. You gotta see why these guys get re-elected despite obvious mental decline.
