Btw this is what user interface design is. It's just this petty and subtle and difficult, because people have strong feelings about the way they like to do things. There are tons of examples of bad user interfaces and not that many good ones. It's a demanding field. Users know that a slight difference doesn't matter if you use it once, but it makes a huge difference when you use it 234232 times. This is why software that just "feels right" (like certain parts of KDE, to me) is so awesome.

Of course it is, but it differs from person to person. KDE is by far better and more intuitive thang GNOME, We agree on that one, but that doesn't change the fact the most popuar distro is GNOME based. It's a hard field and that's why they are different products that offer different functionality. Your personal preference is not end of all things.

lol it still doesn't do what it's supposed to do. The point is that it should pick off tabs right-to-left. So if you have 9 tabs open and you're on #8 and close it, it should give you #9. If you're on #9 and close it it should give you #8. This is how FF works. Opera doesn't seem capable of it.

use can middle-click in the tab and it'll close down btw.

as for opening a link in a new window without switching to it immediately, hold down Ctrl and Shift when u Left click teh lin and it'll do that...

I agree with your opinion on Opera, it has always struck me as the odd browser. I have it always on my desktops, I always install it after I install FF whether on Windows or on Linux but I always refer to it afterwards. I even used it for a while as a mail client

Why should I? I need my bookmarks in Opera and that simply doesn't work.

Such shortcomings, the mediocre customization and the lack of add ons like adblock and video downloader, totally turned me away from Opera.
There was a time, when i was really angry with firefox,
as it lacks a proper, efficient bookmark back up.
Every time i have to format, or every time FF crashes, i lose all the data and since FF is kind enough to remember them for me, i tend to forget them, favorite sites+passwords+accounts...

If ever suddenly disappear, you guys should know, i m either dead or its FF's fault...

Like I said on your site, very well written and really disapointed I didn't even get a mention.

Seriously though, I couldn't agree less with you on pretty much everything. They haven't failed, there are still millions of users running Opera and loving it. And as you said they have the best product for browsing on PDAs, cell phones as well and not to forget Nintendo Wii also uses Opera.

They haven't managed to do what FF did, true, but they still offer a quality, just different product. And some people just like different. I for one, as you know, love every single thing about Opera and dislike FF almost as much as IE. Call me weird but I'm sure I'm not the only one on the Earth. Having 1 or 2% in such a huge market as Internet browsers will never be a small thing or a failure.

And Konqueror, in my most honest opinion, sucks great big balls of fire, both as a file manager and even more as a browser. If it ever gets a bigger market share than Opera, I'll eat my shorts.

And Konqueror, in my most honest opinion, sucks great big balls of fire, both as a file manager and even more as a browser. If it ever gets a bigger market share than Opera, I'll eat my shorts.

First of all, Konq will not do that until it gets better. What is about to happen is that webkit, the rendering engine that Safari uses and that so many people are nuts about (which is based on khtml originally, from konqueror), is going into QT, which means it's going to be in Konqueror as well. Konq still has a lot of quirks, but it's going to get a lot of attention because of webkit and because of the Windows release. And therefore in say 2 years time I can see Konqueror being on the mainstream radar.

Konq has a long way to go then. I don't think it will get that much attention though, most linux distros are already including FF with them and it's questionable how will all this KDE on Windows agenda fare with the general public. If Konq is gonna make such a leap, it's gonna have to be a whole new program, the way it is now, it's just shite.

well, press ctrl+shift when clicking on a Bookmark and it'll open it in a new tab.
