Meeh. I was posting on the basis that your first post was referring to a more general consensus determined by some experts. I probably need some sleep. :p

not to sound redundant, but when all said and done bale will go down as one of the best actors ever
I take your Bale and raise you De Niro and Cruise.

No. The thing is, it's not enough to be one of the best actors, you also have to star in films that will be remembered as masterpieces. Pacino, De Niro and Brando are remembered because of the amazing films they were in as much as because of their amazing performances.

I can't think of one film considered a masterpiece where Bale gave a fantastic performance. Some will say the Batman films are masterpieces (I don't agree), but he sure as hell didn't give an Oscar worthy performance there. He probably gave his best performances in The Fighter, The Machinist and American Psycho, and those films are sure as hell not masterpieces. He's still young though.
Equilibrium.

what now?

Bale is one of the best actors around. Whats a masterpiece and whats not is just an opinion. For me, his highlights were American Psycho, The Prestige, and The Fighter. Not a big fan of the Batman series, especially the last one. That was very poor.

Looking forward to American Hustle.

I saw the first 30 mins of American hustle in cinema then got sleepy and went home, it was 3rd film in 7 hours movie marathon early in the morning(all 3 movies were movies that aren't out yet) . His role was quite interesting to say the least, a fat balding colorful hustler, him and Amy Adams had very good on screen chemistry.

It's once a year cinema tradition here (santa Lucia event) you watch 3 random movies that aren't out yet anywhere in the world, between midnight and 7 in the morning. Bad thing was the best film is saved for last, when you are sleepy as heck and work just few hours after it finishes :p
