can't stop watching movies from the Far East these days - Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Audition and Battle Rotal highly recommended.

I'd recommend Ichi The Killer, Violent Cop, Brotherhood (Tae Guk Gi), Ran, The Twilight Samurai.

Actually, going through Akira Kurosawa's filmography is a great place to start, right in the deep end.

What a movie! But I still think Rashomon is his greatest work ever without underrating any of his movies one bit.

no, looked for it but could only find one movie called the Suicide Club, original is Japanese with a whole bunch or US/European remakes, it seems.

thanks for the suggestions - I've seen Ichi The killer and Ran, as well as some other AK movies, but not the others

Suicide Club is the name of the first one. Noriko's Dinner Table is the second one.

Watched Game Change last night, pretty good. I can only say that I'd heard snippets of the idiocy that is Sarah Palin up until now, so it was interesting to see her major fuck ups played out in a dramatic piece. Also, Julianne Moore makes for a pretty hot Palin

I'm reading Cameron Crowe's conversations with Billy Wilder, my favorite filmmaker. It's an amusing read in detail about what had been going behind the scenes of the movies you have loved, actors and their erratic behaviors, studios, media and their way of handling issues, legends like Jack Lemon and Audrey Hepburn, and of course about a great director and a very likable man, Billy Wilder.

And nah, I'm not going to post it in the "books you are reading" thread
