Amazing movie that was  lil Affleck was great too
Casey Affleck is pretty much always great.

Some of the last ones I watched:

Amusement - Another one of those typical horror movies that come a dime a dozen. This one did have a few good scenes though.

Welcome Home Roxy Carmicheal - Pretty lame dramedy starring a young Winona Ryder. Never funny, didn't care for it.

The Signal - Rather amusing horror comedy. Shame about some continuity problems, but some brilliant scenes & a few great one liners: "When that ball drops, I'm gonna grab a slut and I'm just gonna pee in her butt!"

Drillbit Taylor - Some good moments but no consistency, one of the weaker Apatow productions.

Irreversible - very good film, its not arthouse, it is exploitation cinema! It was interesting to see rape portrayed as an act of violence as opposed to an act of sexuality. Also the scene was pretty sick. I also found the camera work interesting to start with, it was very orson wells esque with long unbroken camera shots. It actually made me feel physically sick in the first ten minutes, not many films have done that! I would emplore you all to watch it, the irony of the movie is that you walk out with a smile on your face!

Can't say I did actually, although I do understand where you're coming from.
I think what happened before in this movie (the rape as well as the revenge) made it impossible for me to walk out feeling good or smiling. I guess I just coupled the ending back to what happened earlier.

The thing is iv seen a lot of french films that follow a very similar narative where you start with a dysfunctional scene and work back to happiness and it always makes me feel happy as opposed to depressed that you know what is going to happen. Its that same as Pulp Fiction, you have a happy ending because you see jules and vincent walking out of the restaurant, but we know that vincent will die in a few days. It doesnt stop it being a happy ending, it just depends on whether you are willing to suspend the knowledge of the future, which essentially the dirrector wants you to do.

You are right about that, but for me personally it all depends on the kind of movie it is.
Pulp Fiction for me is a great movie, but definitely not a serious or "realistic" movie. Therefore the violence doesn't bother me one bit, giving me no reason to feel uneasy at what is happening, or what will happen after the final scene.

Irréversible on the other hand does feel very real. As a result that makes it a bit more difficult for me to see the "bright side" of it.
Same with a movie like Funny Games (talking about the original here). There's nothing in this movie that you haven't seen before, but it all feels different (not necessarily realistic in this one though), which makes it harder to watch. Maybe this is a bad example though, as it does not have a happy end.

Assassination of Jesse James

I say this is Brad Pitt's best performance. He says more with one look here than he ever did with hundred lines
Superb acting from both pitt and aflek

I saw it with some friends, all of us expecting something ridiculously cheesy and over the top, but we were disappointed: it's very competently written, acted and directed. It's a film where the t in the title is replaced with a sword, but it's a very good one of those.

It was actually an idea of James Cameron's from 41 years ago (he had the idea for it when he was 14 years old) that started in actual movie production some 14 years ago.

It's got "epic" all over it, including the marketing. I'll wait until the nerds go "epic" all over themselves for the next several months before trying to get close to it myself.

I've been pretty sceptical about it - the teaser trailer looked rubbish and rumours were bad. Early reviews have been positive, but I can't rule out Cameron fanboys having raced to see it early. Not that he should have any fanboys left after Titanic, but then he did make Terminator, and Aliens, and Terminator 2, and T2 3D...

If he wins some kind of award for Avatar, he'll end up having to top "I'm king of the world!" by dropping his pants on stage at the Oscars. :juventus:

Ebert has written a very good review on it, giving it a 4/4. The story being set in the year 2154 with James Cameron as the director, you wouldn't be disappointed I guess. It depends a lot on your taste in movies though. If you are not a Star Wars fan, you probably wouldn't like Avatar either :D

Going to watch Up in the coming days :weee:
