We call it Holland in common english and The Netherlands, the way our language works we have to make it into a plural or it wont make it gramatical sense. The same way that we call 'The Gambia' just Gambia becuase it just doesnt work in our sentence structure. I was under the impression that the dutch spoke Flemish or Frisian or what we call Dutch. All of which iirc are Germanic dialects.
LOTR was great. At least the way it was made, I don't care about the story.
Star Wars was a bore.
Superman, the latest I saw, was very mediocre. The originals were not too bad.
Spiderman - horrendous, went to see it literally cause there was nothing else playing.
So i watched Donnie Darko last night for an essay im writing on cult cinema. I watched it about 4/5 years ago and thought it was a really good film and thought i would enjoy it on its second viewing. I was however mistaken, i didnt enjoy it, i loved it. The out and out satire of 'Middle America' was shear hilarity. I used to think it was just an America Gothic film, its far more than that, its a social commentary filled to the brim with satire. The storyline around the end of the world and time travel is just a vessel to transport these ideals. Any other thoughts on the film?
I just watched Sherlock Holmes and thought it was just ok.
I was never a fan of the books as I thought that the essence of them is the details and Sherlock's analysis of them. I think Guy Ritchie tried to work on that aspect but to succeed with that you have to transform the book into a video game not a movie.
All in all it was entertaining but I thought it was a bit short and that it lacked character. The most disappointing thing was using American actors to speak with an English accent.
