Tuz took a collective break from watching movies, huh?

Gangster Squad

I liked it alot, Ryan Gosling is turning into a Ben Affleck v2.0. He didn't even play a character in this movie. He had two facial expressions, the usual handsome vanilla face Gosling and the Gosling with messy hair and watery eyes that we know so well from Drive. He needs to do something or GTFO.

Blue Valentine is still his best effort to date, wondering if he peaked too early.

Emma Stone has genuine talent, though. She's clever and funny.

They both do, but Gosling is just in danger of becoming a stereotype of himself.

Not many ladies in hollywood can pull off her sassiness.

Jennifer Lawrence has already become the new it girl though. And yeah, Gosling needs to do meaningful movies or else everyone will get tired of him.

Lawrence has become an it girl for god knows what reason, I really don't see why. Emma needs to work hard now that her initial buzz is wearing off, I'm confident that she can hold her own though.

Gangster Squad was a pretty big role for her though, she's playing one of two female parts in the entire movie, a movie holding a large number of prominent male stars in it.

She's neither of the three. She has a good sad face, but that's it.
Lawrence is a decent actress. She's done really well with choosing roles. In picking films like Winter's Bone and SLPB she put herself in perfect situations to be successful; each film had a solid cast, was well written, and helmed by a great director in each. Granted she probably isn't the most talented out of her generation of peers but she's made the most her opportunities. She was actually pretty good in the two films for which she was nominated.

You think he was better in Blue Valentine than Half Nelson?

Forgot about Half Nelson, very good in that one too. I'd still say that he's better in Blue Valentine, perhaps because I think it's a much better movie than the latter.

Half Nelson made me think, have you watched Detachment? Now that's one hell of a movie.

I thought it was an interesting take on the educational system. Loved all the cameos.

Interesting as in correct or partially correct, or interesting otherwise?

One of the standout movies that I've watched in the last year, granted they haven't been numerous.

I don't know how "correct" it is these days, but I thought it was a good portrayal of a system breaking down and teacher's struggle to keep things going.
