I am yet to see Public Enemies and Inglorious basterds, I have the first on DVD, the second still waiting DVD to come out.

I so want to see Inglorious Basterds, cause I am big fan of Brad, but I am not sure if I will like it, not a fan of Tarantino movies..

I like period movies because they are historical, anything relating to History is interesting to me. But pre-80s? Meeh, more like pre-WW1 and anything before last century. Too modern isnt too fun, the further back, the better (most recent times I like is medieval times, everything after that doesnt feel so ancient, just too famliar).
To you maybe, I watch That 70s Show with childlike fascination in my eyes :D

its very talky, its much better than kill bill and death proof, but nowhere near pulp fiction, reservoir dogs or jackie brown!

I just rewatched district 9, bloody good film.

Let me just say this, never in my life I thought anything could beat GoodFellas from #1 in top fav movies of mine, but The Basterds fuckin did it. Nuff said.

Pesci and De Niro, could you make any better combination than this? I love them both, that golden era of movies :touched:

You must have very low expectations from a film if goodfellas was your favourate to be quickly replaced by inglourious

Uh-oh, the taste police is here. I like movies for the way they make me feel, I don't give a fuck about how it was made, how much money it made, its critical reception, etc. And no one ever should. This is personal.

The Beach is one of my all time favorite films. Because of the way it made me feel the first time I saw it, and the way it makes me feel now.

I firstly dont see the point in ranking films and secondly dont regard Inglourious a very good film, let alone better than goodfellas. I never said goodfellas wasnt a good film, its a very good film, but there are so many better.

I know its entirely subjective, but i was commenting on how you must have low expectations from a film as both the two you named, centered on gratuitous violence and language.

A film is very much what it means to you personally i just don't understand how gangster films can trigger that kind of emotion.

Inglourious Basterds is up there, because the whole time I was sitting in the theatre with a big fat grin on my face, and every word mattered, and every joke sunk in.
The same as I felt when I first saw GoodFellas.

Was that more because of the anticipation you had for the film and how you were sure it wasnt going to be amazing when you walked in or because you walked in as a blank canvas and it blew your mind? I walked in as a blank canvas and walked out thinking that tarentino can do so much better.

Both. Plus I was high on weed. And it was by far the best cinematic experience for me.

Well as i study film as part of my degree, i feel i have to.
Is it so hard to understand why violence combined with humour can be appealing?
Because you don't see it in life, and that's what movies are for basically... escapism.

I understanding why its appealing, of course i understand why, many of my favourate films are like that. But aside from escapism, another reason major reason people watch films is through the uses and gratifications theory, where they gain something from viewing it, a life lesson, a sence of well being etc. etc. etc. Which is why i dont understand how films such as Goodfellas or Inglourious Basterds can be a favourate film, because neither of those provide anything beyond an entertainiing narative and as you said violence combined with humour.

I don't know if anyone really learns anything from movies.
