Avatar was an entertaining movie, enjoyable as Ahmed said (not sure if he's being sarcastic though ). Juts because it got a massive undeserved reputation among people doesn't mean it was a bad movie.
But when I watch a movie I usually rate it on the plot first, acting second, and the visuals/effects third. The plot sucked horse nuts and the acting did too.
Visuals and effects are just fixtures which make an already shitty plot into a horrible movie.

The plot was the 'Imperialism' plot. It is one of the easiest to sell and brings in a massive audience. There are two massive post modern references to the plot in the script...the element being called 'unobtainium' and the plannet being called 'pandora'.
